It looks like O.J. Simpson’s estate is facing a harsh financial reality. The man in charge of his affairs has admitted that the estate simply doesn’t have the $57 million owed to Fred Goldman, the father of Ron Goldman. This news comes as a significant development in a long-standing legal battle.
The Estate’s Financial Shortfall
Malcolm Lavergne, the executor of Simpson’s estate, made it crystal clear on “TMZ Live” that the funds just aren’t there. He stated, “The reality is the estate currently doesn’t have that kind of money. And practically, the estate probably will never have that kind of money.” This admission confirms that the full amount of the judgment is unlikely to be paid.
While the estate has accepted Fred Goldman’s claim, Lavergne emphasized that this is about legal accuracy, not the estate’s ability to pay. He also noted that the total debt could balloon even further, potentially by another $25 to $30 million, once interest is factored in.
A Long Road to This Point
This massive sum originates from a Nevada claim filed by Goldman in 2021, which built upon a 1997 civil judgment. That initial judgment awarded over $33 million. The case is tied to the tragic murders of Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson in 1994. O.J. Simpson was famously acquitted in the criminal trial but later found liable in the civil case.
Lavergne explained that any remaining assets in the estate, after all legal expenses are settled, will be directed to the Goldmans. “They will get the lion’s share of whatever is left,” he confirmed. He also shared that past attempts to reach a settlement during Simpson’s lifetime were consistently derailed by personal conflicts.
A Shift in Stance
Interestingly, Lavergne, who had previously vowed not to pay the Goldmans, has reversed his position following Simpson’s death. He now states that the estate is committed to honoring the debt to the best of its ability, even if the full amount cannot be met.
