Hold up, did you see this? Stephen Curry, the legendary Golden State Warriors point guard, has fans buzzing after he was spotted wearing Nike sneakers during a recent pre-game warmup. This comes hot on the heels of his decade-long partnership with Under Armour officially coming to an end.
A Tribute to Kobe Bryant
The specific shoes Curry laced up were a pair of Nike “Mambacita” Kobe 6s. He explained that his choice was a heartfelt tribute to the late Kobe Bryant. “I know it’s weird seeing me in anything else other than my own shoes,” Curry admitted after the game. “But just the idea of what he meant, I’ve talked about Kobe a lot. And that specific pair, I think it speaks for itself, what it means.”
Curry emphasized that he wanted to seize the moment to pay homage to Bryant, believing it gave him some good energy for the game against San Antonio on November 14th. It was a clear sign of respect for a fellow basketball icon.
A New Chapter: Sneaker Free Agency
This move has naturally sparked speculation about Curry’s future in the sneaker world. Having recently parted ways with Under Armour after a 12-year relationship, he is now officially a sneaker free agent. The last product from his Under Armour line, The Curry 13, is scheduled for release in February 2026.
Curry himself confirmed his free agency status, expressing pride in his past partnership while looking forward to new beginnings. “I’m a free agent. I’m out here, new beginnings,” he stated. “I was blessed to have an unbelievable experience and take a chance on something that meant a lot to me over the last 13 years, and extremely proud of myself, my team, everybody who’s able to touch that business for that long.”
A Winning Performance
The tribute clearly paid off. Curry put on an incredible performance in the game against the Spurs, scoring an impressive 49 points and leading the Warriors to a narrow 109-108 victory. It seems paying homage to Kobe Bryant brought him the good energy he was hoping for.
