Trooper Bumps Players, Removed from Game

A college football game took an unfortunate turn when a Texas State Trooper was seen aggressively bumping into Black players from the South Carolina Gamecocks. The incident, which occurred during the first half of the game against Texas A&M, quickly went viral after being broadcast on ESPN.

The Incident Unfolds

The moment happened shortly after South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor scored an impressive 80-yard touchdown, putting the Gamecocks up 27-3. As Harbor and two teammates headed towards the endzone tunnel, a Texas State Trooper approached them. Video footage shows the trooper bumping into Harbor and another player before making comments.

One of Harbor’s teammates was seen gesturing for him to return to the field, seemingly to avoid further interaction with the officer. The footage of the encounter was captured and shared widely across social media platforms.

Immediate Repercussions and Reactions

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) quickly responded, stating they were aware of the incident and that the trooper involved was sent home from the game. Texas A&M confirmed the officer was relieved of his game-day duties. The department’s Office of Inspector General is also investigating the matter further.

The incident cast a shadow over the game, which Texas A&M ultimately won with a historic 31-30 comeback. However, the actions of the trooper drew significant criticism. NBA star LeBron James weighed in, calling the trooper’s actions “premeditated and corny AF!!” and suggesting he should be suspended.

Calls for Accountability

Meteorologist Chris Jackson from South Carolina also voiced his concerns, questioning the trooper’s “gross appeal to authority.” He expressed disappointment, stating, “I promise you a SC State Trooper wouldn’t be throwing unneeded elbows like it’s middle school.” Jackson’s comments highlighted a sentiment that the officer’s actions were an unnecessary and unprofessional display of power.

Other figures, like Barstool Big Cat and Will Compton, also shared their reactions on social media, with many calling for the officer’s suspension or questioning his conduct. The incident has sparked a broader conversation about the role of law enforcement at sporting events and the importance of professionalism.
