Remember those days at Hillman College? Well, get ready to pack your bags because Netflix is taking us back! The beloved sitcom “A Different World” is officially getting a sequel series, and we couldn’t be more excited to see what this new generation brings to campus.
A New Generation at Hillman
This fresh take on the iconic show is set at the same legendary fictional HBCU. We’ll be introduced to Deborah Wayne, played by the talented Broadway star Maleah Joi Moon. She’s none other than the daughter of our favorite alums, Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert!
As Deborah steps onto campus for her freshman year, she’ll be navigating the exciting, and sometimes overwhelming, experience of college life. The big question is: how will she balance the immense legacy of her parents with forging her own unique path and identity?
Meet the New Class
The official logline hints that Deborah is “set out to build her own legacy – while having the time of her life – alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.” Sounds like a recipe for drama, comedy, and unforgettable college memories!
Joining Maleah Joi Moon in this exciting new cast are Alijah Kai, Chibuikem Uche, Cornell Young IV, Jordan Aaron Hall, and newcomer Kennedi Reece. We can’t wait to see the chemistry they bring to the screen!
Behind the Scenes: A Legacy Continues
Steering the ship as writer, executive producer, and showrunner is Felicia Pride, who shared her deep connection to the original series. “It is such an honor to be a part of bringing back this iconic show, one that I grew up on and which had a profound impact on my life,” Pride stated. “I am so proud of the work we’re doing to reimagine ‘A Different World’ for beloved fans and new generations alike.”
Adding to the star power behind the scenes, Debbie Allen is returning to direct and produce. Plus, Reggie Rock Bythewood and Gina Prince-Bythewood, who famously met while writing for the original show, are also on board as executive producers. It’s a true reunion of talent!
Will the Original Cast Return?
While the focus is on this new generation, fans are buzzing about potential cameos from the original “A Different World” cast. It remains to be seen which beloved characters might make a guest appearance, but the possibility alone has us thrilled!
