Khalid Opens Up About Being Outed

Imagine this: you’re living your life, planning to share something deeply personal on your own terms, and suddenly, it’s out there for the whole world to see. That’s exactly what happened to Grammy-winning singer Khalid, and he’s finally opening up about the frustration and annoyance of being publicly outed by an ex-partner.

The Annoyance of Being Outed

In a candid interview with Scott Evans, Khalid didn’t hold back, describing the experience as “annoying as fuck.” He revealed that posts made by his former boyfriend on X last year brought his sexuality into the spotlight unexpectedly. Even though the events were in the past, Khalid suddenly found himself navigating public speculation.

Instead of crafting a lengthy statement, Khalid opted for a simple, powerful response. He tweeted the gay pride flag, signaling his identity and moving forward. This approach showed a desire to control the narrative and not let the situation dictate his journey.

Navigating Vulnerability and Authenticity

The singer also touched on the difficult aspect of feeling vulnerable under intense public scrutiny. Initially, he felt the urge to defend himself, but soon realized there was nothing to justify. “You can’t just tuck the gay back in the closet,” he wisely pointed out, highlighting the impossibility of hiding one’s true self.

Khalid shared on the “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer” podcast that his intention was always to share his sexuality privately, on his own timeline. Once it was revealed online by someone else, there was no going back. “You can’t just sweep it under the rug,” he stated, emphasizing that life, and his own journey, continues regardless.

The Pain of Vulnerability Being Used

He admitted that feeling his vulnerability was used against him was deeply hurtful. “It’s hurtful,” Khalid confessed. “But I can’t be mad at myself for being genuine, for saying yes to someone I liked, or for being honest about who I am.”

This perspective shows a mature approach to learning from experiences and embracing self-acceptance, even when faced with difficult circumstances. It’s a reminder that our genuine selves are never something to apologize for.

Focusing on Music First

Khalid also revealed that he had initially planned to share his sexuality publicly but wanted to prioritize his music. He explained, “I didn’t want to spend energy showcasing my sexuality when I was putting so much effort into making and crafting my music.” This shows his dedication to his artistry and his desire to let his work speak for itself.
