Ever wonder if looks are really all that matters when it comes to catching someone’s eye? Well, Nick Cannon is here to tell us that sometimes, it’s the personality that truly shines! He recently opened up about his dating philosophy, revealing that he’s never really relied on his looks to win people over.
Childhood Insecurities and a Big Personality
On an episode of his podcast, ‘Nick Cannon at Night,’ alongside Bre Tiesi and Dr. Kerryanne Perkins, Nick shared a surprising detail about his younger days. He admitted that as a kid, he was quite scrawny and never felt he stood out based on his appearance. This led him to develop a different strategy.
He explained, ‘I always like, yo, I was little, so I had to have a big personality. I had to like talk my way into getting a girl to like me.’ It sounds like his charisma was his superpower from the start!
The Gift of Not Relying on Looks
Nick recalled how people would tell him he’d be ‘cute when you get older.’ This feedback, while perhaps well-intentioned, highlighted his own perception that he wasn’t conventionally attractive. He saw this as both a ‘gift and a curse’ because it meant his looks were never the primary focus.
This lack of reliance on physical appearance pushed him to cultivate other valuable traits. He felt it made him a more ‘well-rounded individual’ compared to those who might have just coasted on their good looks.
Building a Well-Rounded Persona
By not focusing on being the ‘pretty boy,’ Nick had to develop his communication skills, sense of humor, and overall charm. He essentially had to compete with the ‘light-skinned, curly-haired dudes’ who seemed to effortlessly attract attention.
This competitive drive, fueled by his insecurities, ultimately helped him build a robust personality that has served him well throughout his career and personal life. It’s a great reminder that confidence and connection often trump physical attributes.
