Moonlight Peaches Recalled Over Listeria Risk

Attention shoppers! Moonlight Companies has issued a recall for several batches of their conventional yellow and white peaches due to concerns about potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This recall also includes Kroger-branded peaches, so it’s important to know what to look out for.

What Peaches Are Affected?

The recall, initiated on October 29, impacts peaches sold between September 16 and October 29 across the United States. The affected peaches may have been sold as individual fruits with PLU stickers or in multi-packs. Importantly, products labeled “Washington” or “Organic” are not part of this recall.

Listeria monocytogenes is a serious concern, especially for vulnerable populations. The bacteria can cause severe illness, particularly in pregnant women, young children, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems. For pregnant women, Listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.

Understanding the Risks and What to Do

While healthy individuals might experience short-term symptoms like fever and nausea, the potential for severe complications makes this recall critical. The company stated that the contamination was identified within the packing facility. Thankfully, as of now, there have been no reported illnesses linked to these peaches.

Moonlight Companies is actively collaborating with the FDA on this recall. If you have purchased any of the affected peaches, you are urged to discard the fruit immediately. For further details or questions, customers can contact the company directly at 855-215-5017.
