Jay-Z’s Decade-Long Paternity Case Dismissed

After nearly a decade of legal wrangling, the paternity lawsuit filed by Rymir Satterthwaite against music mogul Jay-Z has officially come to an end. A judge has dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled, bringing a close to this long-standing legal battle.

The Lawsuit and Its Claims

The lawsuit, initially filed by Satterthwaite’s former legal guardian and paralegal, Lillie Coley, claimed that Jay-Z is Rymir Satterthwaite’s biological father. Satterthwaite, now 30, has consistently maintained this claim, especially after the passing of his mother, Wanda Satterthwaite. The legal filings alleged that Jay-Z’s rise to fame involved an effort to ‘bury a personal truth’ about fathering a child with Wanda when she was 16.

Over the years, Satterthwaite sought to compel Jay-Z to take a paternity test. His legal team previously stated that fabricated allegations had been addressed and rejected in multiple courts, and that Satterthwaite’s continued actions constituted ‘decades-long harassment,’ leading to a contempt order.

Judge’s Decision and Previous Withdrawals

The recent ruling by U.S. District Judge Serilyn Peace Garnett granted Jay-Z’s motion to dismiss the lawsuit. This decision follows a previous denial of a restraining order sought by Coley, which aimed to prevent alleged retaliation from Jay-Z’s team. This effectively cleared the path for potential penalties against Coley for what his team described as harassment.

Earlier this year, Rymir Satterthwaite announced he had withdrawn one of the cases against Jay-Z. However, he stated at the time that he was not stopping his fight for justice and damages, citing ‘a lot going on behind closed doors.’ The specifics of which case was withdrawn were not immediately clear.

The End of a Long Legal Chapter

With this latest dismissal ‘with prejudice,’ the legal avenue for Satterthwaite and his representatives to refile this specific paternity claim is now closed. While Satterthwaite has previously expressed his continued pursuit of justice, this ruling marks a significant turning point in the decade-long saga.
