Get ready for a star-studded celebration! The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) has announced that acclaimed actress, director, and producer Regina King will serve as the official ambassador for its milestone 30th anniversary in 2026. This honor marks a full-circle moment, celebrating King’s deep, 30-year connection with the festival.
A Homecoming Celebration in Miami Beach
The 2026 ABFF, presented by Nice Crowd, is set to take place in Miami Beach from May 27-31. Under the theme ‘The Homecoming,’ the festival aims to celebrate the rich legacy and vibrant future of Black cinema and storytelling. King’s role as ambassador will be pivotal in highlighting this theme.
As ambassador, King will leverage her influential platform to champion emerging filmmakers and rising stars who attend the annual event. She’s expected to greet attendees on opening night and headline a special ‘Creator Conversation,’ reflecting on her illustrious career and ABFF’s enduring mission to amplify Black voices in film and television.
A Legacy of Artistry and Integrity
King’s relationship with ABFF dates back to its very beginnings in 1997 when it was known as the Acapulco Black Film Festival. Her participation then and throughout the years reflects her commitment to the festival’s goals. ‘ABFF has championed countless artists and storytellers, growing into a powerful global platform,’ King stated. ‘What Jeff and Nicole Friday have built over 30 years has made a lasting impact across our industry.’
She added, ‘Returning feels like a homecoming — a celebration of our creativity, resilience, and excellence. I’m truly honored to serve as ambassador for this milestone year.’ King, an Oscar winner for ‘If Beale Street Could Talk’ and a four-time Primetime Emmy recipient, joins an impressive list of past ABFF ambassadors, including Nia Long, Larenz Tate, Issa Rae, Halle Berry, and Magic Johnson.
A Full-Circle Moment
Nice Crowd CEO and Founder Jeff Friday and President Nicole Friday expressed their excitement, noting King’s long-standing presence. ‘Regina has been part of the ABFF family since the very beginning,’ they said. ‘She represents everything this festival was created to celebrate — artistry, integrity, and excellence. Having her serve as our festival ambassador for our 30th year is truly a full-circle moment.’
