Get ready, Detroit! The hit OWN dating series ‘Ready To Love’ is back, and this season, host Thomas “Nephew Tommy” Miles is bringing his quest for love to the Motor City. Premiering Friday, November 7, the show promises to showcase the unique charisma and undeniable style of Detroit’s singles as they search for lasting connections.
Miles expressed his excitement about the new location, telling BOSSIP, “I’ve had Detroit on the list for a long time.” He teased that the singles are bringing their A-game, from their fashion sense to their serious approach to finding love. “The singles in Detroit—OMG! If you think Philly lit it up… Detroit is going to light it up. Their dress code alone, oh, they’re coming with it. The style is off the chain.”
Detroit’s Singles: Bold, Stylish, and Ready for Love
This season continues the show’s tradition of featuring successful Black men and women in their 30s and 40s who are genuinely looking for a partner. Miles described the Detroit cast as bold, stylish, and authentic, emphasizing their determination. “Detroit is not playing no games,” he stated. “They got their businesses going on, they got it going on. You’re only missing one thing. You’re missing love.”
Miles, who has been married for nearly 25 years, uses his own experiences to guide the contestants. He stresses the importance of transparency, vulnerability, and, crucially, the willingness to work for love. “Just because you fell in love and love is there doesn’t mean love doesn’t require work. You got to be ready to put some work in.”
Lessons from Philadelphia and Viral Advice
Reflecting on the previous season in Philadelphia, Miles recalled his viral advice to participants Tae and Cisco. When financial issues became a point of contention, Miles encouraged Tae to persevere. He shared his philosophy: “Everybody hits bumps and bruises in the road… Speed bumps keep coming for everybody. I don’t care what you got, how much money you got, or how much you don’t have.”
If you get him while he at the bottom, he’s going to be yours forever. Oh, you’re going to be locked in. He’s going to remember that one who rode with him when he didn’t have nothing. — Tommy Miles
Miles plans to keep the show exciting with his signature surprises, ensuring that viewers and contestants alike are kept on their toes. “I’m not going to ever stop throwing curveballs,” he laughed. “That’s what makes Ready To Love so different. We keep flipping the script.”
A Renewed Perspective: Health and Faith
Beyond the show, Miles shared his personal journey of overcoming thyroid cancer, diagnosed in 2022. Now cancer-free for over three years, he emphasizes the importance of advocating for one’s health. “If something feels off, don’t wait. Go get checked. That’s what saved my life.”
He credits his faith, family, and especially his wife, Jackie, for his recovery and resilience. “I would not have made it through,” he admitted. “When you got a partner and you’ve been together so long, you just lean on each other.”
