Jess Hilarious Blocked by BET Over Trans Comments

It seems like comedian Jess Hilarious’s rapid rise to fame hasn’t shielded her from past controversies. While she’s now a familiar voice on “The Breakfast Club,” Jess recently shared that her past comments have cost her a spot on BET’s ‘Miss Pat Settles It,’ and she’s not holding back her feelings about it.

Blocked from BET Show

During a recent interview with Ms. Pat herself and Jordan E. Cooper, the co-creator of “The Ms. Pat Show,” Jess revealed a frustrating experience. She was all set to appear on multiple episodes of ‘Miss Pat Settles It,’ with all the paperwork finalized. However, just as things were set to move forward, she received a call informing her she could no longer be on the show.

The reason? A comment she made: “Only women can have babies.” BET reportedly cited this statement as the cause for her exclusion. Jess confirmed that the network has the final say on guests, and despite Ms. Pat’s efforts to advocate for her, the decision stood.

Doubling Down on Her Stance

While Jess stated she holds no ill will towards Ms. Pat for trying to help, she found the network’s decision “bogus.” She remains firm in her belief about her statement, telling Jordan E. Cooper, “I understand why [people were upset] but that don’t mean what I said was not true.” This stance has been a recurring theme for the comedian.

This isn’t the first time Jess has faced scrutiny for her views on gender and childbirth. In 2023, Laverne Cox questioned her about remarks perceived as transphobic. More recently, in May of this year, she reiterated her position to “Breakfast Club” guest Lynae Vanee, stating that anyone “with a uterus” can have a baby. This led to criticism from content creator Kevin Ortega-Roja, who accused Jess of transphobia and causing harm.

Ms. Pat’s Advice

Ms. Pat, offering her perspective, advised Jess to adopt a simple rule when faced with similar situations: “Let them allow to be whatever they want to be.” This advice suggests a path of acceptance, though Jess’s recent comments indicate she’s still grappling with how to navigate these sensitive conversations publicly.

The situation highlights the ongoing tension between freedom of speech in comedy and the impact of words on marginalized communities. Jess Hilarious’s experience with BET underscores the challenges public figures face when their past statements resurface and affect their professional opportunities.
