In a swift and decisive move, the popular beauty brand Huda Beauty has announced it’s ending its partnership with Love Island USA contestant Huda Mustafa. This decision comes in the wake of a controversial livestream that has sparked significant backlash.
The Controversial Livestream
The incident occurred during a livestream featuring Huda Mustafa and her boyfriend, Louis Russell (known from Netflix’s ‘Too Hot To Handle’ and ‘Perfect Match’). During the stream, a fan used a racial slur directed at Mustafa’s former castmate, Olandria Carthen. Shockingly, both Mustafa and Russell were seen laughing at the offensive remark.
This reaction didn’t sit well with many, especially since Mustafa had previously faced criticism for not condemning fans who had attacked Carthen online since their time on the show. The laughter during the livestream seemed to confirm the brand’s concerns.
Huda Beauty’s Statement and Action
Huda Beauty released a strong statement addressing the situation. They expressed deep disappointment and emphasized their zero-tolerance policy for racism. ‘We take all forms of racism very seriously,’ the statement read, acknowledging that while they didn’t believe the actions reflected Mustafa’s core character, they were ‘deeply upsetting’ and hurtful to their community and team.
As a direct result, the brand decided to terminate the partnership. All content featuring Huda Mustafa has been removed from Huda Beauty’s social media platforms and in-store displays. The company stressed the importance of accountability and expressed hope for positive change stemming from this incident.
Accountability in the Spotlight
This situation underscores the increasing demand for accountability from public figures and brands alike. In today’s social media-driven world, actions and reactions are amplified, and companies are often expected to take a firm stance against harmful behavior.
