GoFundMe Tip Cracks 2017 Cold Case Murder

Sometimes, the smallest actions can lead to the biggest breakthroughs. In a remarkable turn of events, a simple comment left on a family’s GoFundMe page has helped investigators crack a baffling 2017 cold case. This unexpected digital breadcrumb led authorities to a murder suspect who had been living under the radar for years.

A Tragic Argument Escalates

The case dates back to June 2017, when 25-year-old Evin Paulos was tragically killed. According to police reports, Paulos was stabbed an astonishing 30 times by his friend, Michael Anthony Arredondo, during an argument that turned violent. The altercation reportedly began in a vehicle and escalated when both men exited, leading to the fatal attack.

Paulos was found deceased on June 3, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona. Investigators soon learned that Arredondo had fled the state, eventually making his way to Mexico, where he managed to disappear from the public eye for several years.

The GoFundMe Connection

For years, Evin Paulos’ family held onto hope, searching for justice. Their quest took an unexpected turn when a GoFundMe page, created to honor Evin’s memory, became the unlikely key to solving the crime. A stranger, located in Mexico, left a comment on the page containing specific details about Arredondo’s alleged whereabouts and appearance.

Initially, Evin’s sister, Evien Paulos, was skeptical, fearing it might be a hoax. However, she decided to follow up, asking the commenter for proof. The stranger provided a photograph that confirmed Arredondo’s identity, giving authorities the verifiable information they needed to act.

International Effort Leads to Arrest

With the tip verified, police initiated an international effort to apprehend Arredondo. Working closely with Mexican law enforcement, authorities successfully located and arrested him in Mexico. He was subsequently extradited back to the United States earlier this year to face charges.

Michael Anthony Arredondo is now facing charges of first-degree and second-degree murder. He is currently being held in Arizona on a substantial $1.5 million bond. During a press conference, Phoenix police expressed their gratitude to the Paulos family for their unwavering persistence and gave special thanks to the anonymous tipster who made the arrest possible after seven long years.
