Paul Pierce Charged with DUI After Traffic Nap

NBA Hall of Famer Paul Pierce is officially facing legal trouble after an incident where he was found asleep at the wheel of his car. The former Boston Celtics star has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) following the event that occurred earlier this month.

The Incident Unfolds

The charges stem from an incident on October 7th. California Highway Patrol officers reportedly discovered Pierce’s Range Rover stopped in an active lane of U.S. Highway 101. This happened while officers were responding to a multi-car accident nearby. They observed signs of impairment and initiated a DUI investigation at the scene.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney has since filed two misdemeanor charges against Pierce: one count of driving under the influence of alcohol and another for having a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher. His arraignment is scheduled for November 12th.

Pierce’s Side of the Story

Shortly after the incident, Pierce took to Instagram to share his perspective. He explained that he had been stuck in standstill traffic for an unusually long time – around 45 minutes – and had simply fallen asleep. He posted a picture from that night, stating, ‘I’m old, I’m tired, and I fell asleep.’

While Pierce attributed his state to fatigue from prolonged traffic, the authorities have proceeded with the DUI charges based on their observations at the scene. This situation highlights the serious consequences of impaired driving, regardless of the circumstances.
