Tragic news has emerged from Houston as Jamar Champ, the estranged husband of ‘Love & Hip Hop Hollywood’ personality Masika Kalysha, has reportedly died in a devastating car accident. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 28.
A Fatal Wrong-Way Collision
According to a release from the Houston Police Department, the crash involved a vehicle traveling the wrong way on the Katy Freeway. Shortly after midnight, a silver BMW heading westbound in the eastbound lanes collided head-on with a gold Tesla Cybertruck. The impact caused the BMW to catch fire, and the Cybertruck then collided with an 18-wheeler.
The driver of the Cybertruck was critically injured and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. Friends and family have identified the victim as Jamar Champ, who was 38 years old. The driver of the BMW also tragically died in the crash, while the driver of the 18-wheeler sustained no injuries.
Masika Kalysha Confirms the News
Following the heartbreaking news, Masika Kalysha confirmed her estranged husband’s passing in a statement to TheShadeRoom. ‘It is with profound sadness that I confirm the news of the tragic and unexpected passing of my spouse and father/stepfather of my beautiful daughters, Jamar Champ,’ she shared.
She continued, ‘During this incredibly challenging time, I kindly ask for respect and understanding as our family comes together to support one another and honor his memory. Your thoughts, prayers, and love mean the world to us as we navigate this devastating loss.’ Kalysha also took to Instagram, posting a broken heart emoji and writing, ‘please pray for me and my girls.’

Kalysha and Champ were married in 2021 and share a 3-year-old daughter, Amari. However, the reality star had previously revealed that she and Champ had been separated for the entirety of 2023. In 2024, she mentioned being in mediation with her ‘soon-to-be-ex-husband,’ indicating the couple was in the process of divorcing.
