Tyler, The Creator Almost Retired After ‘Chromakopia’

Hold onto your hats, music fans! Tyler, The Creator recently shared that his 2024 album, “Chromakopia,” almost marked the end of his music career for a significant period. He opened up about his original intentions for the project and how its success ultimately changed his plans.

A Near-Retirement Plan

In a heartfelt Instagram post celebrating the one-year anniversary of “Chromakopia,” Tyler revealed his initial plan: “I was planning on this being my last album for a VERY long time.” He envisioned releasing the album, embarking on a major tour, and then stepping away to focus on other aspects of life, like acting roles, and simply “see what a life is like without work being top of mind.”

He admitted that stepping away is challenging because “I love making things.” It seems the creative drive is hard to ignore, especially when the work resonates so strongly with audiences.

Unexpected Success and Gratitude

Despite his plans for a hiatus, “Chromakopia” ended up taking Tyler to new heights. “I laugh to myself alot because this album ended up taking me places the others didnt,” he shared. “15 years in; biggest its ever been. Im in awe of the success.”

He expressed immense gratitude for the tour, thanking his collaborators Lil Yachty and Paris Texas, and everyone who attended the shows, calling Cincinnati his favorite stop. Tyler reflected on the passage of time, noting, “Its been a year since release, time is moving.”

A New Track and a Follow-Up

To mark the anniversary, Tyler released a deluxe version of “Chromakopia” featuring one new song, titled “Mother.” The track delves into his relationship with his mom and his upbringing, with lyrics like, “Momma told me not to come over there / But that’s all y’all knew, the red and the blue / I liked baby pink at the time…”

The original “Chromakopia” dropped in October 2024 and featured a star-studded lineup including Daniel Caesar, Doechii, GloRilla, Lil Wayne, and more. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Interestingly, Tyler has already released another project, “Don’t Tap the Glass,” in July 2025, featuring Pharrell Williams and others, proving his creative energy is still very much alive.
