It’s been a tough year for NFL legend Adrian Peterson, and unfortunately, the headlines keep coming. Reports surfaced on Sunday morning, October 28, 2025, that the former Minnesota Vikings star was arrested in Texas. This time, he’s facing charges for driving while intoxicated (DWI) and unlawfully carrying a weapon. This isn’t the first DWI incident for Peterson this year, adding another layer of concern.
What Happened During the Arrest?
According to TMZ, the incident unfolded at a gas station in Sugar Land, Texas. Authorities reportedly found Peterson asleep in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, with the engine still running. He was allegedly clutching his phone at the time. When police attempted to administer a sobriety test, Peterson reportedly failed.
Understanding the Charges in Texas
In Texas, a DWI charge is classified as a Class B misdemeanor. The charge of unlawfully carrying a weapon is a more serious Class A misdemeanor. These charges carry significant legal implications, and for Peterson, this marks a repeat offense within the year.
A Troubled Past with Legal Issues
This isn’t the first time Adrian Peterson’s name has been in the headlines for legal troubles. Many will remember the highly publicized child abuse case in 2014, where he faced felony charges for allegedly striking his then-4-year-old son with a switch. He eventually pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault and was reinstated to the NFL in 2015.
More recently, in April of this year, Peterson was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in Minneapolis. That incident occurred following an NFL draft party for Vikings fans, highlighting a pattern of concerning behavior.
What Does This Mean for Adrian Peterson?
With two DWI arrests in 2025 alone, coupled with the weapons charge, Adrian Peterson faces a serious legal battle. The consequences could impact his personal life and any remaining professional aspirations in the football world. It’s a stark reminder of the responsibilities that come with fame and the importance of making safe choices.
