Hip-Hop Legends Honored in Vegas

Las Vegas was buzzing with legendary vibes on October 18th as the Paid In Full Foundation hosted its third annual Hip-Hop Grandmaster Awards! This star-studded event wasn’t just a party; it was a powerful celebration of the artists who laid the foundation for the genre we know and love today.

A Night of Hip-Hop Royalty

This year’s ceremony honored some true titans of hip-hop and funk. Among the celebrated were rap icons Kool G Rap and Grand Puba (of Brand Nubian), the funk maestro George Clinton (Parliament), Kool Rock Ski from the legendary Fat Boys, and Jalil Hutchins from Whodini. These artists have undeniably shaped the culture.

The prestigious Bellagio Resort & Casino provided the perfect backdrop for this incredible gathering. It was a night where pioneers were recognized for their immense contributions, proving that true legends never fade.

Star-Studded Support and Special Awards

The event was graced by the presence of hip-hop royalty, with luminaries like Nas, Fab 5 Freddy, and Dr. Dre showing up to support their peers. Their attendance underscored the significance of the evening and the deep respect these artists have for one another.

The Paid In Full Foundation, founded in 2022 by Ben and Felicia Horowitz, is dedicated to recognizing and supporting older hip-hop artists who may not have received the accolades they deserve. This year, Kool G Rap and Grand Puba received the coveted Hip-Hop Grandmaster Award. George Clinton was honored with the inaugural Quincy Jones Award for his lifetime of influence, while Kool Rock-Ski and Jalil Hutchins were presented with the inaugural Contributor Award.

A Foundation Built on Respect

The foundation’s mission is clear: to rectify the lack of recognition for many original artists who built hip-hop. Through their grantmaking program, they aim to honor these pioneers and empower them to continue their creative and intellectual pursuits. It’s a vital effort to preserve hip-hop history and support its architects.

The night wasn’t just about awards; it was also a spectacular showcase of talent. Performers like Ludacris, Mobb Deep’s Havoc, Babyface, Nas, Rakim, and Kool Moe Dee took the stage, delivering electrifying performances that kept the energy high and celebrated the enduring power of hip-hop music.
