Pharrell Williams Celebrates Virginia Beach’s Atlantic Park

Virginia Beach is buzzing with excitement, and a hometown hero is leading the celebration! Pharrell Williams, the Grammy-winning producer and fashion icon, recently returned to his roots to mark the development of Atlantic Park, a groundbreaking mixed-use destination in Virginia Beach. The weekend of October 10-11 was filled with music, food, and community spirit, all centered around this ambitious project.

A Vision for Virginia Beach

Pharrell, who has partnered with VIRGINIA to bring this vision to life, expressed his pride in what’s being built. Atlantic Park, located at the city’s historic Dome site, represents more than just a new development; it’s a cultural hub and a testament to the evolving identity of Virginia Beach. “VIRGINIA is a cultural destination — it’s also a lifestyle, a philosophy, a state of mind,” Williams stated. “I’m proud of what we’re building here at Atlantic Park in my hometown, and how Virginia has shown up for it.”

NEXT WAVE: Surf, Swim, and Community

A major highlight of the celebration was the official launch of NEXT WAVE, a year-long initiative offering free swim and surf lessons to local youth. This program, made possible through partnerships with Atlantic Park, Adidas Originals, and YELLOWHAB, aims to provide hundreds of young people with essential water safety skills and the confidence to enjoy the ocean.

The program utilizes North America’s first Wavegarden Cove surf lagoon at Atlantic Park. Participants receive gear like life jackets, wetsuits, and boards, learning crucial safety techniques while building confidence and community. Brick Howze, founder of the Los Angeles-based Ebony Beach Club, called the program “historic,” noting that nothing like it exists elsewhere.

Adidas x Pharrell: A Retail and Cultural Experience

Adding to the festivities, Adidas hosted a two-day retail experience in collaboration with VIRGINIA. Attendees had the chance to immerse themselves in the world of VIRGINIA, enjoying music from local DJs, experiencing the debut of the adidas x Pharrell Adistar Jellyfish sneakers, and exploring limited-edition merchandise. The pop-up also featured collectibles like branded fishing lures and puzzles featuring artwork by Virginia Beach artist Sam Clayman.

The weekend also included an after-hours karaoke celebration at a new Japanese temaki restaurant, where Pharrell serves as a partner and advisor. This multi-faceted celebration underscores Pharrell’s deep connection to his hometown and his commitment to fostering cultural and recreational opportunities for its residents.
