Keyshia Ka’oir on Handling Gucci Mane’s Schizophrenia

It takes a special kind of partnership to navigate the complexities of mental health, especially under the public eye. Gucci Mane and his wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, recently sat down with The Breakfast Club to discuss his new memoir, “Episodes,” and shed light on how they manage his struggles with schizophrenia.

Keyshia’s ‘System’ for Managing Episodes

Keyshia Ka’oir revealed that she has a very specific and proactive approach to handling Gucci Mane’s episodes. Her primary strategy? Taking control of his digital presence. “I take his apps off his phone. First thing I do is delete Instagram. I delete everything,” she explained.

She emphasized the importance of privacy during these times, stating, “I don’t need the public to know he’s having an episode.” By managing his social media access and even changing passwords, Ka’oir asserts that she controls the narrative and prevents public awareness of his episodes. She noted that the public hasn’t been aware of any episodes since September 13th, thanks to her intervention.

Recognizing the Warning Signs

Ka’oir also shared the tell-tale signs that indicate an episode might be on the horizon. “He don’t eat. He does not sleep,” she said, describing how Gucci Mane withdraws and wants to be left alone. These physical and behavioral changes are her cue to implement her system.

The conversation drew parallels to Kim Kardashian’s experiences with Kanye West, who reportedly gifted cars during his episodes. Gucci Mane admitted to similar behaviors, recalling instances where he gave away jewelry. He expressed that upon regaining his senses, he often felt taken advantage of by friends.

More Than Just a Memoir

Gucci Mane’s memoir, “Episodes,” released by Simon & Schuster, delves into various significant moments of his life, including his marriage and the story behind his famous ice cream cone tattoo. Following the book’s release, he also dropped his 17th studio album, also titled “Episodes,” featuring collaborations with artists like Sexyy Red and OJ da Juiceman.

The candid discussion highlights the strength and dedication within their relationship, showcasing how they actively work together to manage challenging circumstances. It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of support systems and open communication in overcoming mental health hurdles.
