Get ready for more laughs, more surprises, and deeper dives into the minds of your favorite celebrities! Funny Marco is back with season two of his popular interview series, ‘Open Thoughts,’ and he’s bringing even more insight and entertainment. VIBE sat down with the comedian and personality to get the inside scoop on what fans can expect.
A New Season, A New Approach
Marco shared that this season feels different, thanks to the support of a dedicated team. “This season is different because I have a team behind me,” he explained. “It’s more about getting different people’s ideas and thoughts that help push the content.” He’s excited to explore the impact of working independently versus going mainstream, blending his signature hustle with broader reach.
Marco has carved out a unique niche, creating a comfortable space where guests can be caught off guard yet feel safe enough to open up. He noted how celebrities are increasingly drawn to streamers and online personalities over traditional journalists, a trend he attributes to trust and reputation. “As long as you got a resume showing how you treat people, people will love to sit down with you no matter who you are,” he stated, drawing a parallel to Oprah Winfrey’s interview style.
Learning from Past Experiences
Season two also marks a moment of growth for Marco. He reflected on a viral 2023 interview with G Herbo and Southside, where the guests playfully trolled him. “If something like that happens again, I will be able to speak up for myself,” he vowed, showing a determination to learn and adapt.
Marco’s ability to secure interviews with major stars like Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj, individuals many journalists struggle to reach, is often attributed to his persistence and unique approach. “I just kept DMing them and trying. You have to know who to pick and who you feel comfortable sitting down with,” he revealed.
The ‘Secret Sauce’ and Balancing Personas
He described Nicki Minaj as a powerful trailblazer and emphasized the importance of understanding her influence beyond just rap. Marco also touched on the balance between his on-camera persona and his real-life self, explaining, “Everybody’s a character… you just know when to pull them out.” He’s learned to “read the room and adjust,” whether he’s cracking jokes or engaging in a serious discussion.
This new season is a collaboration with Wave, known for viral digital series like ‘7PM in Brooklyn.’ Tunde St. Matthew-Daniel, EVP of Original Content at Wave, praised Marco for creating “viral, must-watch moments that cut across culture.” He added that the new season will feature Marco’s signature “off-the-cuff interviews, bold humor, and hilariously awkward conversations.”
What’s Next for Funny Marco?
Marco is eager to “shock his guests” with his questions this season, aiming for deeper connections rather than just prank interviews. He dreams of interviewing icons like 50 Cent, Eminem, Barack, and Michelle Obama, approaching each conversation with gratitude and curiosity.
Beyond ‘Open Thoughts,’ Marco is developing a TV show and exploring acting opportunities, even expressing a desire to recreate iconic roles like Coach Carter. The all-new season of ‘Open Thoughts’ premieres Tuesday, October 21, on YouTube and Spotify, featuring guests like LaLa Anthony, Coi Leray, Miguel, and a reunion with Bobbi Althoff.
