Steve Settle III Joins Miami Heat Organization

Big news for former Howard University player Steve Settle III! He’s officially joining the Miami Heat organization, signing an Exhibit 10 contract. This move marks a significant step in his basketball journey after a standout college career, including leading his team to a championship.

From Howard to the Heat’s G League Affiliate

Settle, who went undrafted in the NBA Draft, impressed the Heat during his time with the team in the NBA Summer League. The organization has now signed him to a one-year, non-guaranteed deal. He’ll be heading to the Sioux Falls Skyforce, the Heat’s G League affiliate, where he’ll wear number 4 and continue his development.

During his Summer League stint, Settle showcased his all-around game, averaging 2.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block per game across five appearances. He demonstrated his versatility by leading the team in rebounds, blocks, minutes played, and three-pointers made, while also contributing significantly in other statistical categories.

A Strong College Career

Settle’s journey to the professional ranks includes a successful tenure at Howard University. He was a two-time All-MEAC selection and played a pivotal role in leading the Bison to their 2023 MEAC championship and their first NCAA Tournament appearance in over 30 years. Before his time at Howard, he also played a season at Temple University, where he averaged 12.6 points and 6.2 rebounds.

Looking Ahead with the Heat

Reflecting on his new opportunity, Settle expressed his enthusiasm in a statement to Sports Illustrated: “Miami is a very structured, disciplined organization, perfect for a guy entering his first year as a professional athlete looking to build the right habits.” He added, “The opportunity to be a small piece of such a storied organization is something I don’t take for granted.”

He believes his skillset as a taller, versatile wing aligns well with the Heat’s system and is encouraged by his growth during the summer. Settle is eager to continue developing his game in the G League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce, viewing this as just the beginning of his professional career.
