It’s been two decades since Kevin Federline’s personal life made global headlines, but the former backup dancer is finally confronting his past. In a candid new chapter from his upcoming memoir, ‘You Thought You Knew,’ Federline is extending a public apology to his ex-fiancée, Shar Jackson, and their children for the way he ended their relationship.
A Poorly Handled Breakup
Federline, now 47, admits that he handled the breakup with Jackson, who was then known for her role on ‘Moesha,’ very poorly. At the time, the couple was raising their daughter Kori and expecting their second child, Kaleb. However, Federline began a relationship with pop superstar Britney Spears, a move that dominated early 2000s tabloid culture.
He confesses in his memoir that he lied to Jackson about his whereabouts, fabricating a story about a commercial shoot overseas while he was actually touring with Spears. Federline explains his dishonesty stemmed from not wanting to hurt her, but he now acknowledges the pain his actions caused.
The Pain of Discovery
Eventually, the truth surfaced, and Federline had to confess to Jackson that he was seeing Spears and developing feelings for her. He recalls hearing the ‘heartbreak and pain’ in her voice, acknowledging her anger but recognizing a deeper sadness he couldn’t undo. He tried to reassure her that he wouldn’t abandon their children, Kori and Kaleb (who was born shortly after the split), but admits it didn’t lessen the impact of his betrayal.
But none of that changed the fact that I failed her. I should’ve been more upfront about how unhappy I had been with Jackson. — Kevin Federline
An Apology to His Children
Federline’s apology extends beyond Jackson to their now-adult children, Kori (23) and Kaleb (21). He expresses deep regret for not being the father he wanted to be during that tumultuous period. ‘I wasn’t the man I needed to be. I wasn’t the man I wanted to be. And for that, I am truly sorry,’ he writes.
The memoir also touches on his broader family life, including his sons Sean Preston (20) and Jayden James (19) with Britney Spears, and daughters Jordan (14) and Peyton (11) with his current wife, Victoria Prince. Federline revealed in an interview with Us Weekly that his relationship with Shar Jackson is now solid and cordial, stating, ‘Me and Shar are good. We’re great.’
Moving Forward with Respect
Federline insists there’s no lingering animosity towards either Jackson or Spears, expressing respect for both women who have played significant roles in his life and the lives of their children. He emphasizes that his current actions are driven by love and respect for his families. With this apology, it seems Kevin Federline is ready to close a significant chapter, focusing on clarity and reconciliation rather than past drama.
