New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is teaming up with ASICS once again for a special collaboration. Following their successful first partnership, the duo has just released a limited-edition GEL-DS TRAINER™ 14, drawing inspiration from Diggs’ own childhood memories.
A Story Told Through Sneakers
Diggs shared a touching video clip that seems to narrate the concept behind the shoe. The video features a young Stefon playing football in ASICS, with his mother reminding him that they are his “play shoes.” This personal touch highlights the deep connection Diggs has with the brand and the formative role his mother played in his journey to the NFL.
The video shows young Stefon making impressive moves on the field, foreshadowing his future success. It culminates with his mother’s memorable words, emphasizing the importance of dedication and focus, even in childhood play. The shoe’s design and campaign aim to bring this heartfelt story to life.
Creative Direction and Personal Vision
Diggs took the lead on the concept and creative direction for this project, which was released on October 11th. He expressed that the collaboration is “bigger than a shoe… It’s my story.” He elaborated on how his mother’s grounding influence is reflected in the shoe’s details, including her handwriting on the tongue stating, “These are your play shoes.”
A Thank You to Those Who Shaped Him
Diggs conveyed his gratitude to ASICS for trusting him to lead the creative process and for building something that feels authentic to him. “Seeing the design and the campaign come to life is a thank-you to her [his mom] and to everyone who helped shape me,” he stated. “I’m grateful to ASICS for believing in my vision and building this with me.”
The ASICS GEL-DS TRAINER™ 14 is now available for purchase on the ASICS website, offering fans a chance to own a piece of Stefon Diggs’ inspiring story.
