There’s been a lot of buzz surrounding Real Housewives of Potomac star Dr. Wendy Osefo and her position at Wesleyan University. While some reports suggested she was let go, Wendy’s team is setting the record straight, emphasizing that her departure was her own choice.
A Voluntary Resignation
According to a statement released by her representative to PEOPLE, Dr. Osefo was not terminated from her role as a Distinguished Visiting Professor. Instead, she formally submitted her resignation letter before any official announcement was made by the university.
Her rep clarified, “Dr. Osefo made the voluntary decision to step down from her role. This decision was made independently and communicated directly to the university before any external reports surfaced.” This indicates a proactive move on her part.
Wendy’s Role at Wesleyan
Wendy Osefo joined the faculty at Wesleyan University in the fall of 2024. This semester, she was teaching a fascinating course titled “The Sociology of TV: Race, Colorism, and Xenophobia.” It’s noted that she was present for class just the day before her arrest.
Facing Fraud Charges
This clarification comes amidst serious allegations against Wendy and her husband, Eddie Osefo. The couple is facing over a dozen charges, including multiple felonies. These charges stem from a reported burglary at their Maryland home in 2024, which law enforcement now claims never actually happened.
The Osefos had filed claims with three different insurance companies, seeking upwards of $450,000 for alleged items lost and damages. The situation has clearly taken a turn, impacting both her personal and professional life.
Adding to the recent upheaval, Wendy’s planned appearance on the Housewives spinoff, “Wife Swap: The Real Housewives Edition,” which was scheduled to air last week, has reportedly been canceled.
