Megan Thee Stallion Honored as Mental Health Champion

Grammy-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion continues to break barriers and make impactful contributions beyond her music career. She has been honored as the Mental Health Champion of the Year by The Trevor Project, a leading organization dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ youth. This award celebrates Megan’s unwavering advocacy for mental health awareness, particularly her commitment to serving BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.

Championing Mental Well-being

The Trevor Project’s annual award recognizes public figures who actively challenge mental health stigma and promote supportive conversations among LGBTQ+ youth. Megan joins an esteemed group of past honorees, including Dua Lipa, Dylan Mulvaney, Janelle Monáe, and Lil Nas X, all of whom have used their platforms to champion mental well-being.

Through her Pete & Thomas Foundation, named in honor of her late parents, Megan actively invests in initiatives focused on education, housing, health, and wellness for underserved communities. In 2022, she launched BadBitchesHaveBadDaysToo.com, a vital online resource offering access to therapy directories, crisis hotlines, and mental health organizations, including The Trevor Project itself.

Breaking Stigmas and Creating Safe Spaces

Megan’s dedication to mental health advocacy is multifaceted. She has partnered with the California Department of Public Health for the “Never a Bother” suicide prevention campaign and joined the Ad Council’s “Seize the Awkward” initiative, both aimed at encouraging open dialogue about mental health. Furthermore, she has headlined Los Angeles Pride and spoken out against homophobia within the music industry.

Expressing her commitment, Megan stated, “My goal has always been to use my platform to help break stigmas around mental health and provide resources for those seeking safe spaces to have honest and heartfelt conversations. Mental health impacts all of us, so it’s important to lead with love and empathy. I’m grateful for organizations like the Trevor Project that are committed to spreading awareness and supporting our LGBTQ+ youth in powerful ways.”

An Extraordinary Role Model

The Trevor Project’s CEO, Jaymes Black, lauded Megan as an “extraordinary role model,” particularly for Black LGBTQ+ youth. He praised her “raw honesty, bold advocacy and deep love for her community,” noting that her activism goes beyond words to create tangible resources for often-overlooked communities. Black shared a personal reflection, wishing he had someone like Megan to look up to during his own youth as a queer Black person.
