In a significant legal victory for Wendy Williams, a judge has denied her ex-husband Kevin Hunter Sr.’s motion to file a lawsuit challenging her current guardianship. The ruling by Judge Margaret M. Garnett confirms that Hunter Sr. cannot legally act on Williams’ behalf or interfere with her financial and personal affairs, thereby protecting her independence and control over her life.
Hunter Sr.’s Previous Claims and Williams’ Response
Earlier in June, Hunter Sr. had filed a lawsuit seeking to remove Williams’ court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey. He alleged that the guardianship had become a tool for “punishment” rather than protection, claiming Williams was being “confined against her will” in an assisted living facility with restricted access to her phone and family. Hunter Sr. also criticized Morrissey for alleged financial mismanagement, including liquidating assets and failing to make timely payments on Williams’ obligations.
Seeking to act as Williams’ “next friend,” Hunter Sr. requested $250 million in damages. However, Williams herself refuted his claims, telling TMZ, “Nor do I want him to be a part of my life like that, no. Because Iām divorced forever.” She questioned his motives, labeling him a “money-grubber” and expressing dismay at his alleged actions.
Protecting Williams’ Autonomy
The judge’s decision effectively blocks Hunter Sr. from intervening in Williams’ guardianship matters, reinforcing the existing legal framework designed to protect her well-being and assets. This ruling ensures that the decisions regarding Williams’ care and finances remain under the purview of her appointed guardian and the court, free from interference by her ex-husband.
