DeSean Jackson’s First Win as Coach: A Thrilling HBCU Debut

Talk about a dramatic start to a coaching career! Former NFL star DeSean Jackson just snagged his very first win as the head coach of the Delaware State Hornets, and it was anything but ordinary. His team pulled off a nail-biting 37-32 victory over Albany in a game that stretched over seven grueling hours, thanks to multiple lightning delays.

A Marathon Game for the History Books

This wasn’t just a game; it was an endurance test! Delaware State fans were on the edge of their seats through a rollercoaster of emotions. The Hornets found themselves trailing late in the fourth quarter after Albany took a 32-31 lead with less than five minutes on the clock.

Then, the weather intervened. Multiple lightning strikes forced a 40-minute delay, followed by an astonishing nearly three-hour stoppage. Imagine trying to maintain focus and momentum with such prolonged interruptions! It truly tested the mental fortitude of both teams.

Bennett’s Heroics Seal the Deal

But when the skies cleared and play resumed, Delaware State showed incredible grit. Quarterback Kaiden Bennett, a dynamic transfer, proved his worth with the game’s defining play. With just 34 seconds left, Bennett scrambled an incredible 27 yards for the game-winning touchdown, diving across the pylon to secure the win.

This victory wasn’t just about the score; it was a powerful statement for Jackson and the Hornets. It showcased the resilience and ‘swagger’ Jackson aims to instill, proving they can overcome adversity and close out tough games.
