YNW Bortlen Offered 16-Year Plea Deal in Murder Case

In a significant development in the YNW Melly double homicide case, co-defendant Cortlen Henry, widely known as YNW Bortlen, has been presented with a plea offer from Florida prosecutors. This offer could potentially resolve his involvement in the 2018 deaths of Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr.

A Plea Deal with Reduced Charges

During a recent court appearance in Broward County, Judge Martin S. Fein detailed the offer: if Henry agrees to plead no contest to six lesser charges, prosecutors are willing to drop the two first-degree murder charges against him. The lesser counts include accessory after the fact, conspiracy, witness tampering, and gang-related activity.

Should Henry accept this plea, the proposed sentence is 16 years and three months, to be served concurrently. Time already spent in custody would be deducted from this total. This offer stands in stark contrast to the potential life sentences he faces if convicted of the original murder charges.

The Role of YNW Melly and Legal Proceedings

Prosecutors allege that YNW Melly, born Jamell Demons, was the triggerman in the killings, while Henry allegedly assisted in covering up the crime. Melly himself remains incarcerated and is awaiting a retrial, following a mistrial declared earlier this year.

Judge Fein emphasized his neutral role in the process, stating, “I’m not here to pressure you into anything. My job is to make sure you understand the offer and that your decision is informed.” He advised Henry to consult thoroughly with his attorneys and family before making a final decision.

The court also conducted a checklist to ensure Henry fully comprehends the plea offer, assessing his educational background and mental health status. A follow-up hearing is scheduled for September 9th, just one day before the trials in both cases are slated to commence, setting the stage for a critical decision.
