Metro Boomin Prepares for Trial with Memory Expert

As the trial date looms for Metro Boomin’s civil sexual assault case, the acclaimed hip-hop producer is bringing in some serious expertise. With the proceedings set to kick off later this month, Metro Boomin has enlisted a leading figure in memory research to bolster his defense.

A Renowned Expert Joins the Defense

According to recent court documents, Metro Boomin’s legal team has retained the services of Dr. Elizabeth Loftus, a distinguished psychologist known for her groundbreaking work on the reliability of memory. Dr. Loftus’s research has significantly influenced how memory is presented and understood in courtrooms for decades.

With a track record of serving as an expert witness or consultant in over 300 cases, including high-profile matters involving figures like Michael Jackson and Martha Stewart, Dr. Loftus is expected to be a key witness when the trial begins in September. Her expertise could play a crucial role in how the plaintiff’s account is perceived.

The Allegations and Metro’s Defense

The lawsuit was filed by Vanessa LeMaistre, who alleges that Metro Boomin sexually assaulted her in 2016. LeMaistre claims the producer provided her with Xanax and alcohol during a period when she was grieving the loss of her infant son. She further alleges that the encounter led to a pregnancy that was subsequently terminated via abortion. Metro Boomin has publicly denied these allegations, characterizing the lawsuit as a “pure shakedown” and asserting that any encounter was consensual. He even referenced the incident in his 2017 song β€œRap Saved Me.”

Insights from Dr. Loftus’s Report

In a pre-trial report submitted for a Sept. 8 conference, Dr. Loftus highlighted what she identified as “significant memory issues” within the plaintiff’s account. She pointed out that LeMaistre’s own journal entries suggested she sought further contact with Metro Boomin after the alleged assault. Furthermore, Dr. Loftus noted that additional “memories” appeared in the complaint only after the plaintiff participated in an ayahuasca ceremony in 2024.

Dr. Loftus also addressed changes LeMaistre attempted to make to her medical records concerning the 2016 abortion, acknowledging that further investigation might clarify these alterations. The defense has also brought in psychologist Dr. April D. Thames, who has conducted extensive psychological assessments. Dr. Thames suggested that LeMaistre might be experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder, noting that her post-incident interactions with Metro Boomin, described as “affectionate or re-engaging,” raise questions about the credibility of her allegations.

The Trial Ahead

Scheduled to begin on September 23, 2025, the trial is expected to draw significant attention, particularly regarding the use of psychological testimony in sexual assault litigation. As Metro Boomin continues to vigorously fight these claims, the role of memory experts like Dr. Loftus will undoubtedly be a focal point.
