Get ready for an incredible travel deal! Thailand is launching an ambitious new program designed to give international tourists a taste of the entire country. The initiative, aptly named ‘Buy International, Free Thailand Domestic Flights,’ plans to offer a staggering 200,000 free domestic flights to eligible visitors.
Explore More of Thailand for Free!
This exciting promotion aims to encourage travelers to venture beyond the usual hotspots like Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiang Mai. By offering complimentary flights within the country, Thailand hopes to showcase the rich cultural heritage, unique culinary scenes, and stunning natural beauty found in its less-explored provinces.
The program is set to run from September to November 2025, pending official cabinet approval. Eligible tourists who book their international travel directly through participating airlines or travel agencies will be able to claim these free round-trip domestic flights. The government plans to subsidize a significant portion of the ticket costs, covering up to 1,750 Thai baht (approximately $54) for one-way tickets and 3,500 Thai baht (around $108) for round-trip journeys. Plus, each ticket comes with a 20kg checked baggage allowance!
How to Snag Your Free Flight
Six major Thai airlines have already committed to this fantastic initiative: Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Nok Air, Thai Lion Air, and Thai Vietjet. This widespread participation ensures plenty of options for travelers looking to explore.
It’s important to note a couple of key details: this offer is exclusively for international visitors arriving by air. Those entering Thailand by bus or boat will not qualify. Additionally, any bookings made prior to the program’s official launch date will not be eligible for the free domestic flight offer.
Revitalizing Tourism and the Economy
This free flight initiative is Thailand’s latest strategic move to boost its vital tourism sector. Before the global travel disruptions, Thailand welcomed a record-breaking nearly 40 million foreign tourists in 2019. While the initial target for 2025 was ambitious, the revised forecast still anticipates a significant influx of visitors.
Officials project that this promotion could generate approximately 8.8 billion Thai baht (about $273 million) in tourism revenue, a substantial return on the government’s investment of around 700 million Thai baht ($22 million).
