Micheal Barrow, a former linebacker known for his time with the New York Giants, was arrested late Monday night after a heated family altercation outside Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport escalated into physical confrontations involving his wife and children.
Airport Dispute Turns Physical
According to reports, the incident began as a dispute between Barrow and his minor son while they were traveling to the airport. His wife, Shelley, reportedly tried to de-escalate the situation by stepping between Barrow and their son.
However, the situation took a turn for the worse. Police reports indicate that Barrow inadvertently struck his wife in the face while trying to manage the argument, causing her to fall to the ground. This unfortunate incident occurred as his wife attempted to shield their younger son.
Intervention and Arrest
The situation intensified when Barrow’s older son witnessed his mother on the ground and his father allegedly punching his younger brother. In an attempt to intervene and stop the assault, the older son physically engaged with Barrow, leading to a scuffle between them.
Law enforcement arrived shortly after the incident. Barrow was subsequently arrested and booked into Broward County Jail on a charge of battery. Court documents filed on Wednesday indicate that he has entered a plea of not guilty.
Barrow’s Football Legacy
Barrow, 54, had a notable career in the NFL. Drafted in the second round in 1993, he played for 12 seasons with teams including the Oilers, Panthers, Giants, and Cowboys. He also had a successful college career at the University of Miami, contributing to two national championships.
