In the ongoing legal battle surrounding an alleged assault at a prenatal clinic in 2018, Cardi B’s defense has received significant backing from key witnesses. Testimony from clinic staff directly contradicts the claims made by security guard Emani Ellis, painting a picture of a verbal dispute rather than a physical altercation.
Cardi B’s Account of the Incident
Cardi B herself testified that while the situation was tense, no physical contact occurred between her and Emani Ellis. “I didn’t hit her. She didn’t hit me. There was no touch. So to me, there was no incident,” the rapper stated. She also highlighted that the argument began only after Ellis recorded her without consent.
At the time of the incident, Cardi B was four months pregnant and weighed around 130 pounds, making a physical confrontation unlikely, she argued. This detail adds weight to her assertion that the encounter was purely verbal.
Clinic Staff Corroborate Cardi’s Story
Tierra Malcolm, the receptionist on duty that day, testified that she heard raised voices and intervened. She found Cardi B and Emani Ellis in a heated exchange and stepped between them to de-escalate. Crucially, Malcolm stated she witnessed no physical contact from Cardi B.
Adding further support, Malcolm noted she later discovered a scratch on her own face. She believes Ellis caused the injury, as Ellis was positioned with her back to Malcolm during the argument. This account directly challenges Ellis’s version of events and bolsters Cardi B’s denial of assault.
Doctor’s Testimony Supports No-Contact Narrative
Cardi B’s OB-GYN, Dr. David Finke, was also present at the clinic. He testified that he observed Ellis causing a shoulder injury to Malcolm but did not see Cardi B touch anyone. Dr. Finke expressed his astonishment, stating, “I’m just flabbergasted with the allegations that don’t seem congruent with what I saw that day.”
The clinic had closed early that day to ensure Cardi B had privacy for her prenatal appointment. The testimonies from both Malcolm and Dr. Finke create a consistent narrative that the conflict remained verbal, directly supporting Cardi B’s defense and casting doubt on the assault allegations.
