Black Attorney John Bey Leads Plaintiff Lawyers Group

In a significant move for the legal community, Atlanta attorney John Bey has been elected President-Elect of the American Association for Justice (AAJ). This organization represents the largest group of plaintiff lawyers in the country, and Bey’s appointment marks a historic moment, bringing nearly two decades of experience in civil litigation to the forefront.

A Champion for Justice

With over 20,000 members nationwide, the AAJ plays a crucial role in advocating for individuals seeking justice through lawsuits, often against large corporations. Bey expressed his excitement about representing trial lawyers and their clients, embracing the “David-versus-Goliath” aspect of his work. He’s passionate about ensuring that those who may not have the best resources still have access to strong legal representation.

Bey, who has been a dedicated member of the AAJ for 15 years, has steadily grown his own firm, Bey & Associates, establishing 15 offices across several cities. His leadership within the organization, formerly known as the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, has been a consistent theme throughout his career, aiming to enhance services for clients.

Advocating Against Restrictive Laws

Bey’s upcoming tenure comes at a time when Georgia is implementing new legislation that could limit compensation in personal injury lawsuits. Governor Brian Kemp signed a law aimed at protecting small business owners from potentially high damages, a move the AAJ has publicly opposed, arguing it unfairly benefits insurers and large companies over victims.

Bey plans to use his leadership position to champion plaintiffs’ rights, both within Georgia and nationally. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that new laws and rules don’t hinder people’s ability to bring cases and achieve justice. His goal is to advocate at the Capitol in Washington D.C. and powerfully convey his clients’ stories and struggles.
