Drake Appears to Buy 2Pac’s Death Row Chain

Drake’s European tour has brought him to Copenhagen, and his latest Instagram activity has the hip-hop world talking. The rapper posted a series of photos ahead of his August 24th and 25th shows, one of which features him wearing what appears to be the legendary Death Row Records chain once owned by Tupac Shakur.

A Nod to 2Pac Amidst Beef

The post, captioned “COPENHAGEN NIGHT ONE LESSSGO,” included the iconic “All Eyez On Me” album cover alongside a picture of Drake sporting the distinctive chain. Given the highly publicized 2024 rap beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, this move is being widely interpreted as a subtle, yet pointed, jab in Lamar’s direction.

During their lyrical battle, 2Pac played a significant role. Drake controversially used an AI-generated version of Pac’s voice on “Taylor Made Freestyle,” while Lamar referenced the rapper’s famous ring on his track “Euphoria.” Lamar even altered lyrics during a performance to suggest he’d show Drake more respect if he returned the ring to 2Pac’s family.

Reactions and Ongoing Legal Battles

Drake’s Instagram post has ignited a firestorm of reactions online. While some fans are applauding his trolling tactics, others view it as a sign that he hasn’t learned from the recent rap battle. Away from the tour and the lyrical sparring, Drake’s defamation lawsuit against UMG concerning Kendrick Lamar’s track “Not Like Us” is still ongoing.

He recently achieved a legal victory when a federal judge granted him access to Lamar’s Universal Music Group contract. However, the details of this contract will remain sealed, citing privacy concerns and UMG’s interests, meaning the public won’t get a peek into the specifics.

Meanwhile, Kendrick Lamar has been making appearances, recently performing “Chains & Whips” with Clipse in Los Angeles. His “Grand National Tour” is set to resume later in September.

What do you make of Drake potentially acquiring 2Pac’s Death Row chain? Do you think it’s a strategic move in his ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
