The Unlabelled Awards, founded in 2013 by Carol Butterfli-Tia Dunkley, has a unique mission: to shine a light on those working tirelessly behind the scenes to advance culture. Dunkley emphasizes the importance of acknowledging these individuals, stating, “Everyone focuses on those in the front, but rarely do we acknowledge those who tirelessly push from the back.”
This year’s ceremony, themed as an all-white gala, will take place on August 30th at The Penthouse in New York City. It promises to be a night dedicated to recognizing authenticity, integrity, and purpose.

Among them is Dr. Kendall Murray McFarlene, receiving the Visionary Advisor Award for her two decades of empowering students and founding a mentorship program for girls of color. Cherie Amor Davis, founder of The Rebirth of Amor, will be honored with the Mirror Image Award for her work in haircare, particularly helping women facing hair loss.
Dr. Josephine Yeboah Van-Ess will receive the Preceptor Award for her 18 years of leadership in New York City public schools, focusing on educational equity. Amber Le, “The PR Princess,” is recognized with the Pressline Mantle Award for her impact in entertainment communications. Dorian “Jihad” Richburg, CEO of Billboard King LLC, earns the Imprint Award for his work as a celebrity stylist and digital billboard entrepreneur. Councilwoman Dr. Tiawana Brown will receive the Civic Engagement Award for her nonprofit work supporting formerly incarcerated women. Nasancia Charles is honored with the HERitage Award for her international real estate leadership and women’s empowerment initiatives. Finally, legendary stylist Phillip Bloch will receive the Crown of Thread Award, and DJ Jermaine “DJ Madout” Rickett will be recognized with the Rhythm Award for his musical contributions.
