Get ready, because hip-hop royalty is taking center stage at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards! None other than the legendary Busta Rhymes is being honored with the very first MTV VMA Rock The Bells Visionary Award. This brand-new award celebrates his incredible career and the massive impact he’s had on both hip-hop culture and music videos.
A Night of Honors and Performances
But Busta isn’t just receiving an award; the 53-year-old icon will also grace the VMA stage with a special performance, making this a truly memorable night. The announcement, made early Monday, August 18th, also revealed the star-studded lineup of performers joining him, including Alex Warren, J Balvin with DJ Snake, Ricky Martin, Sabrina Carpenter, and sombr. Ricky Martin will also be recognized with the Latin Icon Award.
Adding to the excitement, the show will be hosted by another hip-hop legend, LL Cool J. He’s no stranger to the VMAs, having co-hosted in 2022 and making history in 1997 as the first rapper to win the coveted Video Vanguard Award. It’s a night that truly celebrates pioneers in music.
A Career Defined by Vision
This latest accolade for Busta Rhymes comes hot on the heels of another major achievement: receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame earlier in August. This honor further solidifies his status as a heavyweight in the music industry, recognized for over two decades of groundbreaking work. The Rock The Bells Visionary Award is a fitting tribute to his innovative spirit and lasting influence.
Mark your calendars! The 2025 MTV VMAs are set to broadcast live on Sunday, September 7th, at 8 p.m. ET. You can catch all the action on CBS, with a simulcast on MTV and streaming available via Paramount+ in the U.S. It’s going to be a night packed with incredible music and well-deserved recognition!
