  • Rod Wave Countersues Promoter Over $27M Lawsuit

Rapper Rod Wave is fighting back against a $27 million lawsuit filed by promoter Grizzly Touring. Rod Wave has filed a counterclaim, asserting that the promoter’s alleged scheduling and production mishaps made it “logistically impossible” for him to complete his “Last Lap” tour. He hopes a judge will rule in his favor, allowing him to proceed with his upcoming “The Redemption Experience” tour, set to begin in December.

    Allegations of Promoter Mismanagement

Grizzly Touring, a joint venture involving AG Entertainment, Mammoth Touring, and CTS Eventim, filed their lawsuit last month, claiming Rod Wave owes them $27 million in advances and is contractually obligated for future tours. However, Rod Wave’s counterclaim, filed on Sunday, October 12th, argues that Grizzly breached the contract first. His legal team alleges that the promoter repeatedly changed the tour schedule, canceled concerts at the last minute, and failed to properly manage equipment logistics.

The counterclaim states that Rod Wave “frequently learned only at the last minute that a show had been rescheduled, often only after seeing tickets for these rescheduled shows available online.” Out of the 35 originally scheduled shows, only 12 reportedly occurred as planned. Rod Wave’s legal team described Grizzly’s motion as “baseless” and an “unfortunate extension of its prior failed attempts to trap Rod Wave into an exclusive arrangement.”

Seeking Damages and Freedom from Contract

Rod Wave’s attorney, James Sammataro, stated that Grizzly is not entitled to “improperly requested specific performance or equivalent injunctive relief, which effectively amounts to an indentured servitude.” He added that Rod Wave has lost confidence in Grizzly as a promoter and no longer wishes to perform services for them or receive their services. Furthermore, Rod Wave claims his ex-agent, Beau Williams, was paid $1.8 million “under the table” by Grizzly to “sneak” a five-tour exclusivity clause into the contract. He is seeking financial and emotional damages from Grizzly Touring.

The “Last Lap” tour, initially scheduled from October to December 2024, saw several postponements extending to February 2025 before Rod Wave announced the cancellation of remaining dates in January. This countersuit aims to resolve the contractual disputes and allow Rod Wave to move forward with his planned “Redemption Experience” tour.

  • Kneecap Cancels U.S. Tour Amid Terrorism Charge

Fans hoping to catch Irish rap group Kneecap live in the U.S. this October will be disappointed. The trio, known for their unique blend of Irish and English lyrics and outspoken political stances, has announced the cancellation of all 15 of their scheduled U.S. tour dates.

    Legal Troubles Force Tour Cancellation

The reason behind the cancellation? Ongoing legal proceedings. Member Mo Chara is facing a terrorism-related charge in the UK, stemming from an incident in November 2024 where he allegedly displayed the flag of Hezbollah at a concert. UK law prohibits displaying flags in a manner that could suggest support for designated terrorist groups.

Kneecap, comprised of Mo Chara, Móglaí Bap, and DJ Próvaí, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. They’ve labeled the charges a “witch-hunt” and a “smear campaign” orchestrated to silence their criticism of alleged Israeli actions in Palestine. The band stated in April that their accusers “weaponize false accusations of antisemitism to distract, confuse, and provide cover for genocide.”

    A Promise to U.S. Fans

In their Instagram announcement, the group expressed their regret to fans, stating, “Due to the proximity of our next court hearing in London to the first date of the tour, as the British government continues [its] witch-hunt, we will have to cancel all 15 U.S. tour dates in October.” They assured ticket holders that refunds would be issued.

But it’s not all bad news for their American fanbase. Kneecap promised to make it up to their fans, hinting at “something very special for U.S. fans next week” to “ink in with you all in October.” They kept the details top secret, urging fans to stay tuned for the reveal.

    Support and Solidarity

The response from fans in the comments section was largely supportive. Many expressed their understanding and solidarity, with one user writing, “Ill be donating my refunded amount to an organization that supports Palestinians.” Another commented, “Extremely upset. But you guys are fighting for something bigger than giving me and the lads a great night out..”
