  • Kenneka Jenkins’ Mother Speaks Out on Case

It’s been over two years since a $10 million settlement was reached in the tragic case of Kenneka Jenkins, but her mother, Teresa Martin, is now breaking her silence. Martin claims she was misled and pressured into accepting the settlement, and she’s determined to uncover the truth about her daughter’s death.

    A Mother’s Fight for Answers

In a recent, lengthy Facebook post, Martin expressed her deep-seated belief that she was “tricked” into the settlement and “pressured” to remain silent about the events surrounding her 19-year-old daughter’s demise. “I still don’t know what happened to my child’s life,” Martin wrote, listing items like her daughter’s clothes, shoes, and cell phone that remain unaccounted for.

Jenkins’ body was discovered in a walk-in freezer at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare hotel in September 2017, a discovery that shocked the nation. The official cause of death was ruled as hypothermia due to accidental exposure, with alcohol intoxication cited as a contributing factor. However, the family has long suspected foul play, especially since her body was found nearly 24 hours after she was reported missing.

    Allegations of Coercion

Martin alleges that the settlement process was coercive. She claims that she and others involved were kept in rooms for extended periods, not allowed to leave until they agreed to the terms presented. She also stated she was forced to record a video, adding to her feeling of being manipulated.

The fear of retaliation is palpable as Martin speaks out. She mentioned the possibility of facing further legal action for breaking the terms of the settlement, but her resolve to find answers and retrieve her daughter’s personal belongings remains strong. “They WILL GET ME ANSWERS, give me her clothes and her CELL PHONE and anything that belongs to her when she died that was on her body,” she declared.

    Seeking Justice

The family’s initial $50 million negligence lawsuit was settled for $10 million five years after Jenkins’ death. Now, Teresa Martin is determined to revisit the case, driven by the belief that the full truth has not yet been revealed and that justice for Kenneka Jenkins is still within reach.
