Basketball fans and sneakerheads, get ready! Nike has officially announced the release date for Kevin Durant’s latest signature shoe, the Nike KD19. This highly anticipated sneaker is set to drop in June, marking another milestone in Durant’s long-standing partnership with Nike.
Exclusive Launch and Global Release
The Nike KD19 will first be available exclusively through the SNKRS app on June 13. Following this exclusive launch, a wider global release is scheduled for June 17. This staggered release strategy is common for high-profile sneaker drops, aiming to build hype and manage demand.
Kevin Durant himself debuted the new footwear on March 16, during the Houston Rockets’ game against the Los Angeles Lakers in Houston. Ross Klein, VP and creative director at Nike Basketball, described the KD19 as embodying Durant’s on-court edge, designed for responsiveness and comfort to help players perform at their best.
Performance and Player Perspective
The KD19 follows up on the Nike KD18, which was released in February 2025. While the new sneakers are designed for peak performance, they didn’t prevent the Rockets from losing to the Lakers 100-92 on the night of the debut. Durant took responsibility for the loss, stating, “I just felt like I lost the game for us tonight. It’s that simple.”
Durant finished the game with 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting, but struggled in the second half, committing six of his seven turnovers. He reflected that he “didn’t need to have the ball as much as I did tonight.” Despite the loss, the Rockets remain in contention for a high playoff seed in the Western Conference, currently trailing the Lakers by 1.5 games for the No. 3 spot.
