Tennis legend Serena Williams recently joined Nike to celebrate a significant milestone: the renaming of the company’s World Headquarters. This move further solidifies the powerful connection between Nike and its elite athletes, highlighting a commitment to sports-driven innovation.
A Campus Fit for a Founder
The sprawling campus in Beaverton, Oregon, formerly known as Nike World Headquarters, has officially been renamed the Philip H. Knight Campus. This rebranding is a fitting tribute to Nike’s co-founder, recognizing his instrumental role in transforming the sportswear giant into the global athletic and cultural powerhouse it is today.
Spanning an impressive 400 acres, the campus is more than just an office park. It features over 40 buildings designed with athletes in mind, complete with innovation labs and recreational spaces. Nike intentionally developed the environment to evoke a collegiate feel, boasting walking trails, lush green spaces, and architecture centered around movement and athletic performance.
Serena’s Deep Connection to Nike
Serena Williams’ ties to this campus run deep. Back in 2022, Nike unveiled the massive, 1 million-square-foot Serena Williams Building. This structure, which houses the company’s design, merchandising, and consumer insights teams, represents Nike’s largest investment in fostering creativity and collaborative product development.
The Serena Williams Building itself is a marvel of sustainable design, earning LEED Platinum certification. It incorporates eco-friendly features like solar panels, recycled materials, and measures to protect nearby wetlands, showcasing Nike’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
Honoring a Legacy, Building the Future
Nike President and CEO Elliott Hill emphasized that the campus renaming honors Phil Knight’s enduring legacy while reinforcing the company’s core values: athletes, creativity, and future growth. He noted the campus was built not just as a workplace, but as an environment that inspires its employees to achieve great things, mirroring the spirit of sport itself.
This significant rebranding arrives as Nike continues to invest heavily in athlete-focused branding and campus development, especially in an increasingly competitive global sportswear market. A larger commemorative event is planned for 2026 to formally celebrate the Philip H. Knight Campus.
