Kanye West, known for his often controversial decisions, appears to be making some personal adjustments to his recent musical output. In the past week, several tracks, including those with antisemitic themes and a song detailing a disturbing childhood event, have been removed from major streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.
Tracks Removed from Streaming Platforms
Fans noticed that songs like “WW3” and “HALLELUJAH,” which contained antisemitic lyrics, are no longer available on Kanye West’s Spotify profile. Additionally, the track “COUSINS” has also been removed. While “WW3” and “HALLELUJAH” were linked to his past controversial views on the Jewish community, “COUSINS” stems from a different, deeply personal place.
The song “COUSINS,” initially released in April, detailed a shocking childhood incident where West claimed to have engaged in fellatio with a cousin. This particular track sparked a wide range of reactions, from jokes and backlash to some expressions of support, like that from fellow rapper A$AP Ferg, who urged understanding of potential underlying issues.
A Visit to Rabbi Pinto and a Shift in Tone
A potential catalyst for these removals could be West’s recent visit with Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto. Following his previous antisemitic remarks, West met with the rabbi to express remorse and take accountability. “I feel really blessed to be able to sit here with you today and just take accountability,” West told Pinto.
He attributed his past extreme statements to dealing with bipolar disorder, explaining that it led him to “forget about the protection of the people around me or and myself.” Rabbi Pinto commended West for his initiative, stating, “A person is not defined by his mistakes, but by the way he chooses to correct them.”
Signs of Healing and Reconciliation
While West may not win back everyone’s favor, these actions suggest a period of healing and an effort to mend bridges. The removal of these controversial tracks, particularly those with harmful messages, is a step towards righting past wrongs and demonstrating a commitment to positive change.
