  • DJ Vlad Calls Rory ‘Racist’ Amid Tweet Controversy

The ongoing debates surrounding white figures in hip-hop media have taken a heated turn. Following the resurfacing of controversial tweets from Rory Farrell, former co-host of The Joe Budden Podcast, DJ Vlad has publicly accused him of hypocrisy and racism.

Vlad’s Accusation: ‘Rory Has Always Been Racist’

DJ Vlad took to Twitter to express his feelings of vindication, directly addressing Rory’s past criticisms of him. Vlad tweeted, ‘Rory spent years talking s**t about me, trying to push the ‘I’m white but I’m not like Vlad’ narrative. He was right. Now, everyone sees that Rory has always been racist towards black women. I’m nothing like him.’

This accusation comes after Rory’s old tweets, many of which were retweets, resurfaced. These included statements like ‘I’ve never saw a good looking black woman,’ and generalizations about Black women’s preferences for white men. One tweet allegedly referred to Beyoncé as a ‘hoodrat.’

Rory’s Apology and Vlad’s Own Controversies

Rory has since apologized for the old tweets, though he believes the situation has been overly sensationalized. It remains to be seen if he will directly respond to DJ Vlad’s latest accusations or let them slide.

It’s worth noting that DJ Vlad himself has faced criticism regarding race. Last year, a Black Princeton professor called him out for commenting on Kendrick Lamar’s diss track ‘Not Like Us,’ stating Vlad shouldn’t weigh in on a ‘Black folk affair.’ Vlad’s subsequent public call for the professor’s firing only intensified the backlash from hip-hop fans.

    The Wider Impact

This exchange between two prominent white figures in hip-hop media is likely to draw further reactions from the community. Even Joe Budden, who reportedly squashed his own beef with Vlad, could be drawn into the conversation, adding another interesting dynamic to this ongoing saga.

  • Influencers Spark Backlash With Racist Halloween Blackface

Halloween is a time for costumes and fun, but for some influencers, it became an opportunity to engage in deeply offensive behavior. This year, several individuals, including self-proclaimed comedian Brittany Venti, sparked outrage by using blackface and perpetuating harmful stereotypes, leading to significant backlash online.

    A Disrespectful Costume Choice

Brittany Venti’s Halloween post featured her in blackface, posing with a box of fried chicken and a caption referencing EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) cards. This choice immediately drew criticism for relying on racist tropes and stereotypes associated with Black people. The internet was quick to condemn the act, with one user on X (formerly Twitter) stating, “we’re witnessing levels of racism not seen since 1962.”

Adding a layer of confusion, Venti identifies as mixed-race. Despite this, her use of blackface and perpetuation of stereotypes was widely seen as unacceptable. Many pointed out that her biracial identity did not grant her a pass to engage in racist behavior.

    Defending the Indefensible?

Following the intense backlash, Venti attempted to defend her costume, claiming it was a “satirical bit” and a “continuation of a running satirical bit about how the black community is extremely racist to mulattos for their skin color.” She argued that she was not “allowed” to make fun of these issues, while others were allowed to harass people of mixed race.

However, her explanation did little to quell the criticism. Critics were quick to point out that her personal identity does not excuse the use of blackface or the perpetuation of harmful stereotypes. The comparison she drew was widely rejected as a false equivalency.

    Not an Isolated Incident

Venti was not the only influencer to engage in this offensive behavior. Right-wing influencer Lilly Gaddis also participated in the blackface trend. Gaddis, who has previously referred to herself as “insanely racist” and was fired from a job after using the n-word, has become a conservative content creator who, along with Venti, has leveraged X’s free speech policies to post controversial content.

These incidents highlight a disturbing trend where some individuals use holidays like Halloween to push racist agendas, often under the guise of “satire” or “free speech.” The widespread condemnation serves as a reminder that such behavior is unacceptable and continues to cause harm.
