  • Cracker Barrel Server Sues Over Racist Slurs, Hostile Work Environment

A former Cracker Barrel server is taking the popular restaurant chain to court, alleging a deeply disturbing pattern of racism and a hostile work environment at one of its Tennessee locations. Roberta Mendez, a Black woman who worked at the Nashville-area restaurant since 2015, claims that management not only ignored but also perpetuated discriminatory behavior from her coworkers.

    Allegations of Pervasive Racial Slurs

According to the lawsuit filed on August 21st, Mendez alleges that her coworkers frequently subjected her to racist remarks. These included being called a “nappy headed [N-word,] burnt biscuit,” and a “monkey.” The lawsuit also details an incident where a shift leader allegedly told Mendez directly in 2024, “I don’t like Black people.”

Despite consistently meeting or exceeding performance expectations, Mendez claims she was treated less favorably than her white counterparts, especially those who made derogatory comments towards her based on her race. This alleged disparity in treatment occurred throughout her tenure at the establishment.

    Management’s Alleged Complicity and Retaliation

The lawsuit makes explosive claims about the restaurant’s culture, asserting that management allegedly segregated Black workers from their white colleagues. When Mendez brought her concerns about this treatment and the racist behavior to her superiors, she claims she was not only ignored but was instead written up. Even after escalating her concerns to Human Resources and later to Cracker Barrel’s corporate division in August 2024, detailing the treatment of herself and other Black employees, Mendez alleges she was the only one held accountable.

Tragically, just a month after submitting her grievance to corporate, Mendez was fired for allegedly “breaking company policy.” Meanwhile, none of the white coworkers accused of racist conduct faced any repercussions.

    A History of Discrimination Allegations

This is not the first time Cracker Barrel has faced legal challenges related to discrimination. In 2010, the company settled a civil rights lawsuit with the Department of Justice over allegations of a pattern of denying African-American customers access to facilities and services based on race. Even further back, in 2004, Cracker Barrel agreed to an $8.7 million settlement to resolve lawsuits brought by the NAACP, which included claims of segregating Black and white patrons and serving Black customers food that had been discarded.

Mendez is suing under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, seeking reinstatement, back pay, lost benefits, compensatory and punitive damages, and legal fees. Her legal team expects that depositions will further corroborate the facts alleged in her complaint. Cracker Barrel has not yet officially responded to the lawsuit.

  • Wisconsin Teens Accused of Hate Crime in Combine Harvester Attack

What began as a barn party in Wisconsin took a terrifying turn for a 14-year-old Black boy. The teen was reportedly attacked by a group of young people and violently shoved towards a massive piece of farm equipment, a MacDon FD135 combine harvester header. Adding to the horror, racial slurs were allegedly shouted during the assault, strongly suggesting a racially motivated motive.

    A Near-Tragic Encounter

Miraculously, the victim managed to escape before being pulled into the dangerous machinery. However, a video of the incident quickly surfaced online, igniting widespread outrage and shock. Many were horrified not only by the brutality of the attack but also by the young age of both the victim and the alleged perpetrators, as well as the blatant display of hate.

While initial online descriptions mistakenly identified the equipment as a meat grinder, community members familiar with agriculture clarified it as a combine header, a machine designed for cutting crops. Regardless of the specific equipment, the threat to the boy’s life was undeniably real.

Investigation Underway as Hate Crime Concerns Rise

When authorities arrived at the scene, the teenagers involved had already fled. The assault is now under investigation as a potential hate crime. Community members and activists are demanding that the attackers, including a reported 20-year-old who allegedly led the group, face the most severe charges possible.

This disturbing incident has reignited crucial conversations about racism, particularly in rural areas where discrimination against Black residents often goes unreported. Activists and local leaders are emphasizing that this was not merely a fight but an alleged attempted murder fueled by hate. The event has deeply shaken the small Wisconsin town and prompted calls for justice across the nation, serving as a stark reminder of the persistent dangers of racism.

  • Cardi B Faces Civil Assault Trial Over 2018 Alleged Attack

The Grammy-winning rapper Cardi B is now in the spotlight for a different reason as her civil assault trial officially kicked off in Los Angeles. The case centers on allegations from a former security guard, Emani Ellis, who claims the rapper physically attacked her back in 2018.

    Allegations of a 2018 Altercation

Ellis alleges that during a visit to a Beverly Hills medical office, Cardi B struck her in the head, face, and body. The lawsuit further claims the rapper spat on Ellis and used racial slurs, stemming from an alleged suspicion that Ellis was recording her. The suit also includes accusations that Cardi B’s own security guard assaulted Ellis and that there were attempts to destroy video evidence of the incident.

During her emotional testimony, Ellis told the jury that the encounter left lasting damage and that Cardi B never offered an apology. She stated she suffered facial scars from the rapper’s fingernails, though she admitted she didn’t photograph the injuries at the time due to being too distressed. Ellis began therapy two months after the confrontation, which she found beneficial for her recovery, and emphasized she was not filming Cardi B.

    Cardi B’s Defense

Cardi B has vehemently denied these accusations, asserting she never touched Ellis and that Ellis was the aggressor who tried to film her. The rapper acknowledged a brief exchange of words but stated the dispute only escalated when Ellis attempted to record her. She previously addressed the allegations online, questioning why Ellis didn’t press charges if an assault occurred and highlighting her own physical state at the time (four months pregnant and experiencing pain).

Ellis is seeking damages for medical costs, lost wages, emotional distress, and a civil penalty. The trial is ongoing, with Cardi B reportedly telling reporters outside the courtroom that the incident in question never happened.

  • Mississippi Teen Arrested After Racist Threat Video

A disturbing incident in Caledonia, Mississippi, has led to the arrest of a white teenager after a video surfaced online showing him assaulting a Black teenager. The footage, which quickly went viral, captured the white teen holding the Black teen at gunpoint while uttering racial slurs and threats.

    Viral Video Sparks Immediate Arrest

Authorities acted swiftly, arresting the white teenager just hours after the video was posted. He faces initial charges of misdemeanor simple assault and minor in possession of a weapon. The video appears to show the white teen accusing the Black teen of speaking to his girlfriend and threatening his life if it happened again.

District Attorney Scott Colom indicated that these initial charges might not be the final ones. He explained that a grand jury will review the evidence to determine if more serious charges, including potential hate crime enhancements, are warranted. “If there’s evidence he did it because of race, that’s one thing,” Colom stated. “If the evidence shows it stemmed from another motive, that complicates it.”

    Mother’s Response and Ongoing Investigation

The white teenager’s mother reportedly turned her son in to authorities upon learning of the video and surrendered the firearm used as evidence. She expressed remorse for the incident, stating, “I’m sorry for everything that’s happened.” The family has reportedly been receiving threats since the video surfaced.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about safety and racial tensions in Mississippi. Many are calling for severe punishment, emphasizing that the perpetrator’s age should not excuse the severity of his actions, particularly the use of racial slurs and the threat of violence.

  • Drunk Passenger Forces Flight Diversion with Slurs, Threats

Imagine settling in for a flight to Los Angeles, only for your journey to take a chaotic turn. That’s precisely what happened on a recent Breeze Airways flight when a passenger, reportedly intoxicated, began hurling racial slurs and making threats against the flight crew, forcing an emergency diversion.

    Chaos Erupts Mid-Flight

The incident escalated when the unruly passenger, identified as 46-year-old David Leroy Carter Jr. of Los Angeles, began waving a skateboard and got into a physical altercation with flight attendants. Even after other passengers intervened to subdue him, Carter reportedly broke free, requiring multiple people to hold him down until the plane could land.

Authorities were waiting upon arrival in Grand Junction, Colorado. Carter was taken into custody by Grand Junction police at the direction of the FBI and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility. The FBI is now handling the case, suggesting serious charges may be forthcoming.

    Impact on Passengers and Crew

Breeze Airways confirmed the diversion, stating that flight MX704 from Norfolk, Virginia, to Los Angeles landed in Grand Junction after the passenger initiated a “physical altercation with other Guests and Flight Attendants.” The airline reported that one flight attendant and one guest sustained minor injuries. The immediate priority for Breeze is the well-being of their crew and the remaining passengers who experienced significant inconvenience.

    Extended Delays and Consequences

The diversion meant that all 132 passengers and the five crew members had to deplane in Colorado. While the airline provided food and travel vouchers, the situation caused further delays because the flight crew “timed out” for the day, meaning they could not legally continue the flight until the next morning. This left everyone stranded in Grand Junction for hours, highlighting the serious consequences of one passenger’s disruptive behavior.
