    Paul Tazewell, the visionary costume designer behind iconic productions like “Hamilton” and “Wicked,” is bringing his expertise to the “Tamron Hall Show” as a mentor for its upcoming designer series. This initiative aims to provide a platform for emerging designers from non-traditional fashion hubs, offering them guidance and exposure.

The featured designers—Kimaya McPherson, Dutch RicLamar, Urvi Selaska, Fiona Rose, and Ashlyn So—hail from Coral Springs, Florida; Hampton, Virginia; Mumbai, India; Clover, South Carolina; and San Mateo, California. These locations are not the traditional fashion hubs, underscoring Hall’s commitment to providing opportunities for talents who might otherwise be overlooked.

    The work of these emerging designers spans various styles, from whimsical and futuristic to elegant and regal.     Get ready, Chicago! The incredible costume designs from Broadway’s biggest hits are coming to the Windy City. Famed Oscar- and Tony-winning costume designer Paul Tazewell is set to have his work showcased in a brand-new exhibit at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry.

    Crafting Character: The Costumes of Paul Tazewell

    Titled “Crafting Character: The Costumes of Paul Tazewell,” the exhibition is scheduled to debut on January 19, 2026. This exhibit promises an intimate and immersive journey into Tazewell’s creative process, exploring how he brings stories and characters to life through visual artistry.

    Tazewell himself shared his excitement on Instagram, stating, “This exhibition offers an intimate and immersive look into my creative process—where story, character, and craft come together to build the visual language of performance.” He added, “Being invited to share my work in a way that will be engaging and immersive, and to be able to invite others into that experience means so much to me.”

    Iconic Designs on Display

    Fans of musicals like *Hamilton*, *Wicked*, and *West Side Story* will have the chance to see Tazewell’s masterful creations up close. Imagine standing before Glinda’s iconic pink bubble dress from *Wicked*, or the stunning original Schuyler Sisters’ winter ball gowns from *Hamilton*. The exhibit will also feature his incredible Met Gala outfit curation for Janelle Monáe, the “Time Traveling Dandy.”

    A Celebrated Career in Design

    Tazewell, a celebrated Black American designer, has made significant contributions across theater, dance, film, and television. His Broadway debut in 1996 with *Bring in ‘Da Noise, Bring in ‘Da Funk* earned him his first of ten Tony nominations. He has since won two Tony Awards, including for *Hamilton* in 2016 and *Death Becomes Her* in 2025.

    Adding to his impressive accolades, Tazewell made history at the 2025 Oscars, becoming the first Black man to win the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for the film adaptation of *Wicked*. The exhibit will go beyond just showcasing the costumes, offering exclusive narration, videos, and original sketches from the designer himself.
