  • Support Your Girlfriends Retreats in Barbados

Sisterhood and empowerment took center stage as the organization Support Your Girlfriends recently concluded its 7th annual retreat in the stunning Caribbean island of Barbados. This year’s event, held in partnership with Barbados Marketing Tourism Inc., brought together dynamic women trailblazers for a transformative experience focused on connection and growth.

A Celebration of Sisterhood in Barbados

Founded by communications strategist Dr. Nikkia Tené McClain of the Tené Nicole Agency, Support Your Girlfriends has become a vital network for women who are making waves in their respective industries. This year, a curated group of 30 esteemed professionals and creatives traveled to Barbados from August 25th to 29th for the empowerment retreat.

Under the theme ‘Getting Back To Us: Wholesome Friendships Lead to Impactful Sisterships,’ the retreat provided a space for women from corporate, entrepreneurial, and artistic fields to uplift and inspire one another. The goal was to foster unity, personal evolution, and collective impact.

    Intentional Programming for Growth

The retreat kicked off with a Keynote Dinner led by Dr. McClain, setting an intentional and purposeful tone for the experience. Attendees also engaged in a meaningful conversation with the Barbados NGO ‘I AM A GIRL’ and heard from author Jen Hayse Lee. The organization’s core pillars – SupportHER, CelebrateHER, and Pow(H)er – were woven throughout the programming.

The agenda also included lifestyle and wellness workshops featuring special guests like Modupé Rouse, Lucinda Cross, and Debra Marshall. The event culminated in a ‘Pow(H)er’ dinner focused on ‘Getting Back To Sistership,’ hosted by Sharene “Shay” Wood, solidifying the powerful connections made among the attendees as they prepare to champion each other’s future endeavors.

    A Community Built on Support

Since its establishment in 2017, Support Your Girlfriends has been dedicated to creating affordable annual memberships for women trailblazers of color. The organization provides crucial access to resources that help women elevate their ideas and careers, all while connecting with a supportive network of like-minded female visionaries.

Dr. McClain shared her gratitude for the retreat’s success in Barbados, highlighting the importance of creating spaces where women of color can celebrate every aspect of their lives. ‘As women of color, it’s essential to have moments and spaces that celebrate all aspects of who we are, from our dreams and desires to our struggles and happiness,’ she stated. Support Your Girlfriends continues to empower women leaders by encouraging them to embrace their authentic selves.
