It’s been a tumultuous time for the family of Mary Cosby, star of ‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.’ Her son, Robert Cosby Jr., has recently pleaded guilty to a series of serious charges, including assault and trespassing, in Utah. This comes just one day after his wife filed for divorce.
Details of the Guilty Pleas
The 23-year-old appeared in Salt Lake County District Court on November 25th and admitted to eight charges stemming from confrontations with his wife, Alexiana Arian Smokoff, and her father, Shad Stoke. These incidents reportedly occurred over several weeks in the fall. Prosecutors initially charged Robert Jr. with 14 offenses.
Among the guilty pleas are a felony charge for causing over $5,000 in property damage, two counts of violating a protective order, assaulting a peace officer, violating a jail release order, trespassing with intent to cause fear or harm, and misdemeanor assault. Six other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Wife Files for Divorce Amidst Legal Troubles
Adding to the turmoil, Alexiana, 21, filed for divorce on November 24th. Her filing includes standard instructions for both parties not to harass or disturb each other’s peace, along with specific prohibitions against domestic violence and other harmful actions. The legal proceedings highlight the breakdown of their relationship.
A Struggle with the Marriage Ending
Robert’s attorney, Clayton Simms, explained that his client found it difficult to accept the end of his marriage. “Understanding and recognizing the relationship was difficult for Robert based on his religion and background. To him, marriage is sacred and forever,” Simms told PEOPLE. He added that Robert was “slow to recognize and accept his marriage was over” but has since “accepted responsibility for his mistakes.”
Current Status and Sentencing
Robert Jr., who has made appearances on ‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’ with his mother, has been in custody since November 9th. He is currently being held without bail. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for February 3rd, where the full extent of his legal consequences will be determined.
