  • Jim Jones Films Confrontation with Lowe’s Manager

Harlem rapper Jim Jones recently found himself in a heated exchange at a Lowe’s store, and he decided to record the entire encounter. The incident, which took place over the weekend at an unnamed New Jersey location, involved an accusation of price switching and the manager’s subsequent call to the police.

    An Allegation at the Register

According to Jones, the 49-year-old rapper was attempting to purchase locks that were marked with an incorrect price. When he reached the checkout, the store manager reportedly accused him of intentionally switching the price tags. Jones vehemently denied the accusation, and the situation quickly escalated.

In a video shared on Instagram, Jones can be heard speaking to the manager, who appeared to ignore him. Jones expressed his frustration, stating that instead of de-escalating the situation, the manager made it worse by calling the authorities. The rapper noted that the locks were priced at $78.

    Police Intervention and Resolution

When police arrived, Jones explained the situation to them. Meanwhile, another store employee approached the officers and, after speaking with them, instructed the cashier to honor the price indicated on the item. The locks were then sold to an acquaintance of Jones who paid in cash.

Jones shared his thoughts on the manager’s handling of the situation, stating, “I went to one of my favorite places today @loweshomeimprovement, and I was treated less than very embarrassing yal know my first thought was to crash, but I’ve learned I can’t handle every situation with that mentality cause it turns me being right into a wrong due to the way I react.” The manager reportedly left the area without further comment once the police arrived. Jones was not arrested and left the store with his acquaintance.

  • Lowe’s Invests $250M in Skilled Trades Training

In a significant move to bolster the future workforce, Lowe’s has announced a massive $250 million investment aimed at training the next generation of skilled trades professionals. Over the next decade, the home improvement giant plans to train 250,000 individuals in crucial fields like plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work.

    Addressing a Critical Shortage

Lowe’s CEO Marvin Ellison highlighted that this initiative is a direct response to evolving workforce trends and the growing importance of trade education. He emphasized that even with the rapid advancement of AI, the need for skilled tradespeople remains paramount. “As powerful as AI will become, AI can’t climb a ladder to change the batteries in your smoke detector,” Ellison pointed out, underscoring the irreplaceable nature of hands-on skills.

The demand for construction workers is projected to soar, with estimates suggesting the U.S. will need around 350,000 additional construction workers in 2026, climbing to over 456,000 by 2027. Electricians, plumbers, and carpenters are facing similar shortages, and while demand and wages are rising, the pipeline for training new professionals hasn’t kept pace.

    A Personal Commitment to Trades

For CEO Marvin Ellison, this investment is deeply personal. Growing up in Brownsville, Tennessee, he witnessed firsthand the respect afforded to tradespeople like plumbers, electricians, and mechanics. While his own path led to higher education, he recognizes that skilled trades offer a dignified and prosperous career.

Ellison stressed the need to reframe the perception of skilled trades, moving them from being seen as mere “backup plans” to recognized, rewarding, and viable career paths. He believes these professions offer a genuine opportunity for individuals to build wealth and earn a dignified living, often with significantly less student debt compared to traditional four-year degrees.

    A Call for Collective Action

While other major companies like BlackRock and Google are also investing in trade training, Ellison insists that more collective action is necessary. He warns that the skilled labor shortage poses not just an economic challenge but a potential national one. “We know we can’t do it alone,” he stated, emphasizing the critical role this initiative plays for both Lowe’s and the country’s future.

    • Lowe’s commits $250 million over 10 years.
    • Aims to train 250,000 workers in plumbing, carpentry, and electrical trades.
    • Addresses a projected shortage of hundreds of thousands of construction workers.
    • CEO Marvin Ellison emphasizes the enduring importance of skilled trades alongside AI.

  • Lowe’s CEO Marvin Ellison Soars Under Black Leadership

Marvin Ellison, CEO of Lowe’s, is celebrating a significant milestone: seven years at the helm of the home improvement giant. Under his leadership, Lowe’s has not only achieved strong performance on Wall Street but has also focused on employee growth and development, proving the immense value of Black leadership in the corporate world.

    A Trailblazing Career in Retail

Ellison has made history as the first Black executive to serve as CEO of two Fortune 500 companies, first leading JCPenney before taking the reins at Lowe’s in 2018. His extensive leadership experience also includes roles at Target and The Home Depot. Celebrating his seven-year anniversary at Lowe’s, Ellison marked the occasion by spending time in the aisles with employees, recognizing their hard work and contributions.

“I celebrated my 7-year anniversary at Lowe’s the same way I began – in the aisles of our stores,” Ellison shared on LinkedIn. “It was an honor to receive my service badge from the hard-working Associates at Store 2304 in Chicago… I thank God for his continued blessings & favor!”

    Investing in People and Performance

Ellison has been vocal about Lowe’s commitment to employee growth, highlighting initiatives like a $50 million investment over five years to train 50,000 individuals in skilled trades. Recognizing the critical shortage of skilled workers in the U.S., Lowe’s aims to be part of the solution. This focus on workforce development not only benefits employees but also strengthens the company’s operational capabilities.

His leadership has also translated into impressive financial results. Lowe’s stock saw a significant increase of 16.1% in just one month, rising from $215 to $249.7. The company generated $83.7 billion in revenue and approximately $7 billion in profits, underscoring Ellison’s strategic vision and effective management. He is recognized as one of the top Black CEOs leading Fortune 500 companies in 2025.

Ellison often advises younger workers to stay close to the “cash register” and customer-facing roles, emphasizing the enduring value of hands-on experience and customer interaction, especially in the face of AI advancements. He believes these roles offer more stable employment opportunities for growth compared to solely focusing on corporate positions.
