  • LINDEN Restaurant: Where Cuisine Meets Culture

In the heart of Los Angeles, a new culinary destination is making waves by prioritizing not just exceptional food, but also a deep connection to culture and community. LINDEN, a Black-owned restaurant that opened its doors in 2024, has quickly become a vibrant gathering spot for Angelenos seeking an elevated dining experience rooted in authenticity.

A Taste of Culture and Community

Founded by MTV personality Sterling “Steelo” Brim, entrepreneur Alahna Jade, and hospitality partners Vincent Bryant and Scott Williams, LINDEN aims to be more than just a restaurant. It’s a space designed to celebrate Black identity and foster genuine connection. “We’ve always wanted LINDEN to feel bigger than just a restaurant; it’s a reflection of culture, community, and the people who inspire us,” Jade shared with BLACK ENTERPRISE.

Jade emphasizes that culture is the very foundation of LINDEN. “It’s the foundation of the space. LINDEN was built to create a place where our community feels seen, celebrated, and genuinely connected. Representation matters, but creating something with substance and longevity matters even more.”

    Culinary Fusion with Diasporic Roots

The restaurant draws significant inspiration from Linden Boulevard in New York, a historically rich area known for its vibrant Caribbean and Black diasporic communities. This multicultural influence is masterfully woven into the menu, curated by Chef Jonathan Harris.

Chef Harris fuses Caribbean, Southern, Jewish, and African American culinary traditions. Signature dishes like the wagyu oxtail pie and curry corn ribs offer a reimagined take on comfort food, deeply tied to heritage and presented with upscale flair. Diners and critics alike have lauded LINDEN for its ability to balance sophisticated presentation with flavors that resonate with Black and Caribbean roots.

An Atmosphere Centered on Black Identity

Beyond the plate, LINDEN’s ambiance is intentionally crafted to center Black identity. The décor features vintage photographs, moody lighting, and a soundtrack steeped in R&B and hip-hop. This thoughtful design creates a space that feels both welcoming and culturally significant, especially in a part of Los Angeles where Black-owned establishments are notably underrepresented.

Sterling Brim highlighted the restaurant’s unique appeal: “Culture isn’t something you can fake. I think the community and cultural wealth you find at LINDEN is so unique and nuanced that only those from our community truly understand what we’ve created. As ‘For Us By Us’ as you can get.” LINDEN stands as a testament to how Black-owned restaurants can thrive by leading with authenticity, community, and exceptional hospitality.
