  • Mario Defends Love for Black Women

For many millennials, R&B singer Mario was a childhood crush, and his fanbase largely consists of Black women. So, when news broke about his relationship and upcoming baby with his fair-skinned girlfriend, Esmeralda Rios, some fans expressed disappointment, leading to a narrative that Mario “hates Black women.” Now, the singer is directly addressing these claims.

    Addressing the Narrative Head-On

During a recent appearance on Cam Newton’s “Funky Friday” podcast, Mario was asked point-blank if he had any issues with Black women. His response was a clear and resounding, “No. No sir, I don’t, never have.” He emphasized the importance of the Black women in his life, particularly his grandmother, whom he described as his hero and a source of understanding the strength and soul of Black women.

Mario acknowledged that his relationship with his late mother, who battled drug addiction, was more complex and shaped his views on trust and relationships. He also noted that he has dated Black women in the past, and he understands why the question arises, especially given the online discourse surrounding Black men dating outside their race.

The Importance of Black Women in His Life

Mario referenced an Instagram story where he pushed back against the “slander” he felt was directed at Black women online. He wrote, “I’m so tired of the black women slander in the comments about how I don’t like black women and how black women aren’t loved!!” He firmly stated, “Black women are loved and needed.” He expressed confusion over the belief that Black women aren’t loved, pointing out the many thriving Black couples who don’t receive the same negative attention.

He admitted that while he receives “crazy messages,” they don’t personally hurt him. However, he finds it “confusing” when many Black women express similar sentiments. Mario concluded by reaffirming his deep connection to his fanbase: “The core of my fans is Black women. Black women raised me. Black women were the first ones to tell me I’m amazing… So my relationship with Black women is evolving. It’s evolving every day.”

What are your thoughts on Mario’s response to the online criticism? Do you believe his relationship impacts his love for Black women? Share your perspective in the comments below!

  • Michelle Obama on White House Renovations

The White House is more than just a building; it’s a symbol of the nation. When renovations stir controversy, especially concerning a space as historically significant as the East Wing, it’s natural for former residents to weigh in. Michelle Obama has now shared her perspective for the first time on the ongoing renovations in the East Wing, and her message is clear: it’s the people’s house, not a private residence.

The White House: A Symbol of Service

During a recent appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Michelle Obama addressed the ongoing demolition and renovation of the White House’s East Wing, which is slated to include a new ballroom. She emphasized that her family never viewed their time there as ownership. “That house is not our house,” she stated. “We were there for a time. We had a job to do. We always felt it was the people’s house.”

As a former First Lady who lived in the White House from 2009 to 2017 with her husband, President Barack Obama, and their daughters, Sasha and Malia, Michelle understands that administrations leave their mark. She acknowledged that maintaining and improving the residence is part of the responsibility of each family and administration.

    Questioning National Norms

However, the scale and nature of the current renovations have left Michelle Obama feeling perplexed. She expressed confusion about evolving national norms, standards, and traditions. “I just feel like, what is important to us as a nation anymore, because I’m lost,” she admitted, reflecting on the changes.

She recalled that during her family’s tenure, they meticulously followed a “whole standard of norms and rules” because they understood the significance of the White House being “bigger than us.”

The East Wing: Heart of the Home

The current controversy surrounds President Trump’s reported $300 million renovation project, which includes a massive 90,000-square-foot ballroom. While supporters view it as modernization, preservationists have voiced concerns about erasing history. Michelle Obama highlighted the emotional significance of the East Wing, describing it as more than just an office space.

She explained, “That’s where life happened.” In contrast to the West Wing, which she characterized as the place for “work,” “sadness,” and “problems,” the East Wing offered a sense of “light.” It served as a vital space for respite for the West Wing team, a reminder of the purpose behind their demanding work.

    • The White House is considered the “people’s house.”
    • Renovations are a normal part of presidential transitions.
    • Current East Wing renovations have raised questions about national norms.
    • The East Wing served as a more personal, light-filled space.
    • The West Wing represented the core of governmental work.

Michelle Obama’s comments underscore the symbolic weight of the White House and the importance of preserving its historical integrity while also questioning the direction of national priorities. Her perspective invites reflection on what we value as a society.

  • Master Modern Messaging: 7 Etiquette Rules for Digital Status

In today’s hyper-connected world, our messaging apps are more than just tools for sending words; they’re platforms where subtle signals can speak volumes. From the dreaded read receipts to the ever-flickering typing indicators, these digital status cues can shape perceptions and even influence our mental well-being. Navigating this landscape requires a new kind of etiquette. Let’s dive into seven essential rules to help you master modern messaging.

    1. Read Receipts: Use Wisely for Mental Health

Read receipts can be a gentle way to let close friends, partners, or family know you’ve seen their message and will reply soon. They act as a subtle confirmation that you’re present and well, especially if you’re far apart. Think of it as a digital nod. However, in more casual or professional settings, especially with new acquaintances, they can create undue pressure to respond instantly, leading to anxiety and silent judgment. For newer relationships, consider turning them off to avoid this pressure.

    2. iMessage Typing Indicators: Show Engagement or Avoid Stress

The ‘typing…’ bubble on iMessage can be a great way to show you’re actively engaged in a sensitive conversation or carefully crafting a response. It signals that you’re not ignoring the other person. If you don’t mind the default setting, keeping it on is simple. Conversely, if the flickering bubble causes stress or false hope for the recipient—like when you’re nervously composing a message to a new romantic interest—it might be best to turn it off.

    3. WhatsApp Double-Ticks: Strategic Use for Close Ties

Similar to read receipts, WhatsApp’s double-tick system is best used with close friends or partners who understand you might respond immediately. It confirms receipt without demanding an instant reply. However, in group chats or with acquaintances, turning off this feature can reduce the pressure to respond quickly and avoid potential misunderstandings.

    4. Facebook Messenger: Customize Per Conversation

Messenger offers flexibility, allowing you to mute typing indicators or read receipts on a chat-by-chat basis. This is ideal for delicate conversations where you want to show extra attention and care, signaling you’re active and thoughtful. Conversely, if leaving these indicators on would create pressure for you or the other person to respond instantly, it’s wise to disable them for that specific chat.

    5. Android’s RCS: Use When Everyone’s On Board

The Rich Communication Services (RCS) protocol enhances Android-to-Android texting with features like read receipts and typing indicators, but only if both parties support it. Use RCS when you’re confident everyone in the conversation is using it. If someone on the other end can’t utilize RCS, disable it to prevent misleading notifications and ensure clear communication.

    6. Snapchat’s Colors: Foster Playful Exchanges

Snapchat’s color-coded system, streaks, and ‘opened’ notifications are designed for playful, casual interactions. Embrace these features when fostering lighthearted exchanges. However, avoid overanalyzing these signals in serious conversations, as their inherent opacity can lead to misinterpretations and conflict if taken too literally.

    7. Workplace Messaging: Set Professional Boundaries

When integrating work numbers onto personal devices, establishing professional boundaries is crucial. Only enable delivery or read receipts for urgent work messages where confirmation of receipt is vital. Avoid making read receipts the default for internal emails or chats, as this can feel like surveillance and reduce employee autonomy. Instead, focus on clear, professional communication that respects everyone’s time and space.

Your digital status signals might seem small, but they carry a subtle undertone of intent and trust. Choosing whether to show or hide typing bubbles, read receipts, and presence notifications can significantly influence how others perceive you. Remember to always consider the relationship and the specific situation when deciding how to convey your digital status effectively.

Which of these messaging etiquette rules do you find most important? How do you manage your digital status signals? Share your tips and experiences in the comments below!

  • Olandria Carthen: Beyond ‘Love Island’ Stardom

Remember Olandria Carthen from “Love Island USA” Season 7? While the show might be over, Olandria’s star is still very much on the rise. She’s not just another reality TV contestant; she’s quickly becoming a powerful voice, proving that fame from a show like “Love Island” can be a springboard for something much more meaningful.

    More Than Just an Islander

From the moment she stepped onto the island, Olandria captured hearts. As one of only two Black women in the initial cast, her grace, warmth, and undeniable Southern charm resonated deeply, especially with Black women. She understood the significance of her presence, reflecting on a podcast appearance, “When I was on that show, I knew I was representing more than just myself. I’m representing Black women as a whole.”

This awareness of her platform, coupled with a strong sense of self-worth and acceptance, allowed her to navigate the often-intense reality TV environment with poise. The support from her community, she says, means the world to her.

The Power of an HBCU Education

Beyond the villa, Olandria is a proud graduate of Tuskegee University, an esteemed HBCU. She earned her degree in logistics, materials, and supply chain management in 2022. Her time at Tuskegee wasn’t just about academics; it was a transformative experience that shaped her confidence and resilience. She fondly described her college years as “literally the best five years of my life.”

Olandria’s choice to attend an HBCU stemmed from a desire to experience being in the majority. “I have the rest of my life to be a minority. I wanted to see how it felt to be the majority when I walk around and wake up and everybody looks like me,” she explained. This foundation has been crucial in handling the pressures of fame, including online negativity and microaggressions.

    Intentionality Over Impulse

What sets Olandria apart is her deliberate approach to her post-show career. Instead of jumping headfirst into typical influencer content, she opted for a more strategic path. “I kind of wanted to be a little different, do more speaking engagements, talk about uplifting education, HBCUs, breaking out into the fashion industry, like trying to find different lanes. I didn’t want to be stuck in one box,” she shared.

This intentionality has led to exciting opportunities. She’s partnered with major brands like Microsoft, NYX Cosmetics, Aveeno, and Vaseline, and even made her New York Fashion Week debut walking for Sergio Hudson. Her journey is a testament to staying true to oneself and leveraging a platform for positive impact.

  • Your Guide to a Black Thanksgiving Feast

Thanksgiving is more than just a holiday meal; in Black households, it’s a full-blown cultural event! It’s a time for family reunions, laughter, and a culinary showdown that rivals any Super Bowl. If you’re new to this vibrant tradition or just need a refresher, this guide is your essential roadmap to navigating the day with confidence and leaving with a full stomach and happy heart.

What to Wear: Looking Your Best

First impressions matter, even at family gatherings! Aim for an outfit that’s comfortable yet photo-ready. While sweats are often acceptable, they should be designer or paired with a sharp fade or twist-out. Remember the cardinal rule: no outside shoes in the house! And make sure those clothes are ironed – it shows you were raised right.

The Sacred Menu: What to Eat

The food is the star of the show, and seasoning is non-negotiable. If it’s not seasoned perfectly, don’t even bother. Mac and cheese is sacred territory; one wrong ingredient can lead to legendary family debates. Stick to the beloved classics:

    • Perfectly seasoned greens
    • Dressing (not stuffing!)
    • Candied yams
    • Turkey and ham
    • Cornbread
    • Sweet potato pie (definitely not pumpkin!)

Entertainment: The Soundtrack to Your Day

Expect football to be on, regardless of who’s watching. As the day progresses, the TV might switch to beloved Black sitcom reruns like *Martin* or *The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air*, or perhaps a Madea movie. Later, the aunties might take over with a Lifetime movie or a faith-based film.

    Conversation Etiquette: Do’s and Don’ts

Compliment the food generously, inquire about Grandma’s health, and celebrate your younger cousins’ achievements. However, steer clear of sensitive topics unless you’re prepared for a lengthy debate. Avoid asking about marriage or children, and definitely don’t mention store-bought potato salad unless you’re intentionally trying to stir the pot!

Guest List Curation: Who to Invite (and Who Not To)

Keep the peace by politely declining guests who are “on a cleanse,” ask about gluten-free options for traditional dishes, or don’t know how to handle liquor. Exes who still think they’re family and cousins with outstanding debts should also be kept at a distance. And if someone consistently leaves with three plates, maybe block them at the door!

Family Hierarchy: The Buffet Line Rules

Elders always eat first – no exceptions. Children follow, and then it’s a free-for-all buffet. Those who showed up empty-handed, armed only with Tupperware and good vibes, might find themselves at the end of the line.

To-Go Plate Etiquette: The Art of the Leftovers

Making a to-go plate before you’ve even eaten is a rookie mistake that might earn you a scolding. You’re typically allowed one plate to go (two if you’re a family favorite). Always use foil, not plastic wrap, and don’t forget to snag a slice of pie!

    Understanding the “Cousins’ Walk”

If your cousins invite you for a “walk,” don’t expect fresh air. This is code for a pre-dessert smoke session. Prepare for laughter, maybe some eye drops, and the inevitable yelling from an auntie when you return smelling like the great outdoors. Afterward, eat quietly and resist the urge to loudly declare your hunger.

Follow this guide, and you won’t just survive a Black Thanksgiving – you’ll become an integral part of the tradition. Now, grab a plate, say grace, and hope for a peaceful gathering. Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Cuffing Season Evolves, DoorDash Data Shows

That unofficial time of year when casual flings tend to deepen into something more intentional – cuffing season – is back. But according to new insights from DoorDash, this year’s cuffing season isn’t just happening; it’s evolving. The data suggests that the way people define and express connection is changing, moving beyond traditional labels.

    The Data Behind the Dates

DoorDash analyzed order data from September 1 to October 15, 2025, and compared it with trends from October 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025, against earlier data from May 1 to September 30, 2024. They also surveyed 1,000 U.S. adults aged 18-58. The results paint a picture of modern romance, where actions and subtle gestures often speak louder than words.

Interestingly, the trend of labeling delivery addresses with terms like “bae” or “bf/gf” saw an unexpected surge starting September 1, indicating that new connections and the spirit of cuffing season kicked off earlier than usual. By the first week of October, this trend continued to rise, suggesting people are embodying relationship behaviors before officially defining them.

The Toothbrush Test and ‘The Ick’

The humble toothbrush has emerged as a quiet MVP of cuffing season. DoorDash data shows a nearly 30% increase in orders for toothbrushes and toothpaste between 5-9 p.m. on Thursdays through Saturdays, coinciding with date nights. Orders spike by over 10% during late-night hours (midnight to 5 a.m.), hinting that some dates are extending into unplanned overnights.

A DoorDash survey revealed that one in four single daters admits to intentionally leaving a toothbrush behind – a subtle yet clear sign of intending to return. As one respondent put it, “I left my toothbrush to let him know I intended on coming back.” On the flip side, “the ick” is real, with 68% of daters reporting getting the ick after seeing someone’s home, often due to clutter or poor hygiene. This might explain the nearly 80% rise in orders for sheets, pillowcases, and blankets during cuffing season, as people refresh their spaces.

    Cuffing Season: A Cultural Fixture

Far from fading, cuffing season is proving to be a cultural fixture. A staggering 94% of singles surveyed plan to participate this year. Gen Z, in particular, shows strong engagement, with 97% indicating they plan to or might take part. This suggests younger daters are embracing connection but rethinking how it fits into their flexible, spontaneous, and on-demand lifestyles.

The data indicates a cultural shift from explicitly discussing relationships to subtly signaling them. Ordering food in together is now seen by nearly 70% of those surveyed as equally, if not more, intimate than going out. This modern romance thrives on convenience, with small, personal gestures like a late-night toothbrush order or a “bae”-labeled address telling the love story before words are even spoken.

Settling In, Not Just Coupling Up

Ultimately, cuffing season in 2025 is less about simply coupling up and more about the act of “settling in.” It’s about finding comfort, convenience, and connection in the everyday moments, often facilitated by the ease of on-demand services. The receipts, as DoorDash’s data shows, are increasingly telling the tale of modern love.

Do you participate in cuffing season? What subtle signs of connection have you noticed or used? Share your experiences in the comments below!

  • Olivier Rousteing Departs Balmain After 14 Years

After a remarkable 14-year journey, Olivier Rousteing is stepping down as the creative director of Balmain. This marks the end of an era for the French luxury house, which Rousteing helped to not just revive, but completely redefine for a new generation. His departure signals a significant shift in the fashion landscape.

    A Trailblazer’s Farewell

Rousteing, who became the brand’s first Black creative director, shared his emotional farewell on Instagram. He described his 16-year tenure at Balmain as an “extraordinary story — a love story, a life story.” His vision brought a much-needed infusion of culture, color, and community into a space often perceived as exclusive.

Adopted at a young age, Rousteing’s unique background—a blend of his Somali and Ethiopian heritage with his French upbringing—fueled a perspective that challenged the status quo. He dared to integrate pop culture and diversity into the high-fashion world, making Balmain a brand that resonated deeply with a wider audience.

Revitalizing Balmain from the Ground Up

When Rousteing took the helm at just 24 years old, Balmain was struggling, teetering on the edge of becoming a fashion relic. His bold and determined approach breathed vibrant new life into the brand, transforming it into a powerhouse. He famously stated he left fashion school early, driven by sheer determination and a desire to prove himself.

He built the iconic “Balmain Army,” a star-studded roster of muses like Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Naomi Campbell. His signature style—tight silhouettes, cinched waists, military-inspired jackets, and opulent gold embellishments—became instantly recognizable. But his true genius lay in designing not just for the runway, but for the culture.

Harnessing the Power of Social Media

Rousteing was a pioneer in leveraging social media for luxury brands. Long before influencer culture became mainstream, he embraced platforms like Instagram, turning them into his digital runway. He understood the power of connection and used it to engage directly with fans and build a loyal following, proving his president wrong about the perceived limitations of luxury on social media.

His cultural impact was undeniable, famously highlighted by the 2015 Balmain x H&M collaboration. The collection sold out in minutes, causing frenzied scenes in stores as fans scrambled to get their hands on the coveted pieces. This event cemented Balmain’s status as a must-have brand, accessible yet aspirational.

A Legacy of Inclusion and Innovation

Olivier Rousteing didn’t just design clothes; he defined an era. He championed diversity and brought pop culture into the heart of haute couture, proving that a Black orphan from an orphanage could conquer Parisian fashion. His vision extended beyond ready-to-wear, reintroducing Balmain couture and launching Balmain Beauty, showcasing his expansive creative scope.

As he closes this chapter, Rousteing expressed gratitude for the support he’s received and looks forward to the future. “Today, I leave the House of Balmain with my eyes still wide open — open to the future and to the beautiful adventures ahead,” he stated. While it’s hard to imagine Balmain without his distinctive touch, the fashion world eagerly awaits his next move.

What are your favorite Olivier Rousteing moments at Balmain? Share your thoughts on his legacy and what you hope to see from him next in the comments below!

  • AI Singer Xania Monet’s Creator Defends Her Art

In a world rapidly embracing artificial intelligence, the music industry is seeing a new kind of star: Xania Monet, an AI R&B singer. This digital artist has not only charted on Billboard but also landed a $3 million record deal. However, the creator behind Xania, Telisha “Nikki” Jones, a 31-year-old from Mississippi, is now defending her innovative approach against a wave of criticism.

    From Poems to Chart-Topping Hits

Jones, who isn’t a singer herself, uses her poetry as the foundation for Xania Monet’s music. She discovered the AI music app Suno and, in just four months, transformed her written words into the chart-topping single “How Was I Supposed To Know?” Jones views Xania not just as an avatar but as an “extension” of herself, bringing her deeply personal lyrics to life in a way she couldn’t before.

Her hit song, inspired by the loss of her father when she was just eight years old, showcases the emotional depth Jones pours into her work. She sees AI not as a shortcut to fame but as a powerful tool and instrument for the modern era. “I just feel like AI… it’s the new era that we’re in. And I look at it as a tool, as an instrument, and utilize it,” she explained.

    Industry Pushback and Defense

Despite the success, some prominent artists have voiced concerns. Singers like Kehlani and SZA have publicly questioned the $3 million record deal, arguing that AI devalues human artistry and the music creation process. Kehlani expressed frustration in a since-deleted TikTok video, stating, “AI can also make the entire f—g song. It can sing the entire song. It can make the entire beat… This is so beyond our control.”

SZA echoed these sentiments, questioning the implications for artists and wondering if such advancements would be treated the same way in other genres. However, Jones remains unfazed by the criticism. She emphasizes that the heart of Xania Monet is rooted in her own experiences and identity as a Black woman and creator.

    A Creator’s Perspective

“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Technology’s evolving. Everybody has different ways of putting in work to get to where they’re at,” Jones stated. She maintains respect for artists like Kehlani, whom she still listens to daily. Her message is clear: she is Telisha, a Black woman, a creator, an entrepreneur, and the mind behind Xania Monet. She sees her work as a valid expression within the evolving landscape of music creation.

What are your thoughts on AI-generated music and artists like Xania Monet? Do you think it’s a positive evolution or a threat to human creativity? Share your perspective in the comments below!

  • Michelle Obama Gushes Over Barack’s Viral Moment

It seems the spark between Michelle and Barack Obama is as strong as ever! The former First Lady recently shared her adorable reaction to a viral moment where Barack playfully handled an admirer during a campaign stop. Michelle’s response? Pure swoon-worthy adoration for ‘her man.’

A Viral Moment and a Sweet Response

During a recent event in Newark, New Jersey, supporting Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mikie Sherrill, former President Barack Obama was interrupted by an enthusiastic attendee. With his signature grin, he responded, ‘I love you, but hold on. I heard you, girl — just settle down.’ He playfully added, ‘I’m here to talk to everybody, not just you. I mean, you look cute, but I am married, you know? And Michelle’s fine, too.’

The clip of this charming exchange quickly spread online, and Michelle Obama couldn’t resist chiming in. While chatting with Jenna Bush, she beamed and declared, ‘That’s my man. He’s a cutie, too.’

    Aging Gracefully, Together

Michelle elaborated on their enduring connection, noting that reaching their ’60s, with the kids grown and out of the house, allows them to focus on each other again. ‘Finally, we look back at each other and go, ‘Oh, I love you, I remember you. There you are! Where have you been all these years?’ she shared.

And when it comes to who’s aging better? Michelle has no doubts. ‘Oh my gosh he is handsome. He gets more handsome with age,’ she confessed. While she might not be embracing gray hairs herself, she finds them quite attractive on her husband. ‘The graying is good [on him]. I think my husband is gorgeous, and he gets better with age, too.’

    A Love Story Through Scrutiny

In her book, ‘The Look,’ Michelle reflects on her style evolution during their time in the White House and the constant public attention. She revealed that even when facing criticism about her fashion choices, Barack always made her feel beautiful. ‘As I’d open the door, I’d see his eyes light up. He’d tell me I looked beautiful. I believed him every time,’ she wrote.

This sentiment holds true today. Michelle emphasized that in the glare of the spotlight, with their marriage constantly on display, it’s those quiet, simple moments that matter most. ‘It’s really those simple moments where you just sort of have to be quiet, look each other in the eye, and remember that you know one another,’ she explained. ‘That regardless of the lights and the clicking and the limousines and the beautiful dresses, that in the end [it’s] just me and you. And we choose each other every time.’
